Do I install apup instead of just running the updates?

You then run APUP.exe, it gets the scripts and you are offered a list of stuff to download, verify items checked.
Be patient, the time required to accomplish all the downloads may take a while.
When APUP's finish button appears click it.
Go to the \AutoPatcher folder and click on AUTOPATCHER.EXE, review and install as necessary

When I get it going, are my old Autopatcher files any use?

Yes. Apup at this time will not update any former Autopatcher release.
->->->So Start Fresh with APUP in a new empty folder!
Download and extract the contents of "apup.zip" to a new, empty folder.
You should have an apup.exe "file" and an apup_bin "folder"
Run "apup.exe" to start the program.
Look carefully at the selections listed and choose what you need ie: Windows XP x86 English etc,
and Uncheck what you don't need ie: Windows XP in Potuguese.
I would suggest selecting the Autopatcher "Updater", "Engine" and your "OS" first. Let Apup do its thing
and if all is well, get "Office", "DirectX" and anything else seperate. Just "MO"
As far as I know, for now, the bottom 6 items are always checked by default so unless you want them
when you fire up apup.exe look at the boxes checked before you begin downloading and uncheck what
you don't need. I don't have Office 2007 or Office XP but they are always checked.
If you should begin downloading something you don't want or need just exit the program.
If you don't mind a very large folder of various updates, download everything to the same Apup folder.
When you are ready to download click "Next"...
There may be some script that would accomplish this for me but in the future I will simply extract Apup
to seperate folders ie: Apup_Office, Apup_XP, Apup_2K and download only the updates for the given
Hope This Helps
Forgot to mention:
When Apup is done you should have the familiar "autopatcher.exe" file. This will launch the great
Autopatcher program to update your PC.
So after running apup.exe to get the latest updates from microsucks etc, run autopatcher.exe to
update fire up Autopatcher.
