when i run autopatcher with the /unattend and the /noreboot option, it completes successfully but if I reboot and re-run autopatcher it wants to install a bunch more updates.

Is this because it doesn't install some updates until others are installed and the computer is rebooted?

If so, how many times do you need to run autopatcher before you know that it has completed all updates when running in unattended mode?

Seems to me, selecting /unattend will only install those items that are in Critical Updates and are, by default, already checked. All other possible updates require you to review the lisiting and determine if you want to install them. If you assumed /unattend meant everything I believe that's in error.

Reading the Autopatcher 5.6 Release Notes shows a /recommended switch which, as it's name implies, would also install those items listed as recommended.

Corrections will be forthcoming from others if I made a bad guess here.

sorry about that, I didn't mention that I did create an answer file with all of the updates I wanted selected, but it still seems to need to run twice in order for all the updates to be applied.

more specifically, here are the options i'm using

/unattend /noeula /nolicense /noreboot /english /answerfile:test.aaf

i am changing into the directory with the exe before running the script and test.aaf is in the same directory.

I can post the contents of the answer file if need be, but it's somewhat long, so I'm not sure if I should

Perhaps some of the modules depend on the others?

it does seem likely that some modules are dependent on others and that is what is preventing some of the updates from being installed, but i'm wondering if there is some way around this?

any ideas?

does anyone else run into this or they just run multiple times?

I think the best solution would be to just run it multiple times.

Hmm. Could be some things relying on IE7 or WMP11 that fail because they're not installed the first time round I guess.

Hi,

Running twice to install all updates is becoming more common and I seem to need to do this now with most PC's.

I suspect that the install order for the components and hotfixes needs to be checked and tweaked again to ensure everthing installs in the correct order.

e.g. the WGA Validation Tool needs to install early on to ensure that IE7, WMP11 and Windows Defender will install.

IE7 and WMP11 need to install before the relevent hotfixes for those packages will install etc.

IE 7 doesn't need validate anymore. it's opened for everybody.

in the other ones, i never need select wga to install. just validate wmp11 after that and everything is fine. but of course, i don't change things in the install cd, so, it may be related to that.

about ie7 updates, at least one issue i'm already aware, from this last updates: if you have just ie7, you can't run the latest kb for him. it will not install. but if you do it in proper order, it will works fine. but i need check that, since i saw this issue in a pc that had issues in registry, so, that issue may be related to that too
