I tried it a few times, but the .NET Framework updates January 28, 2012, still ends with the message that some files failed verification.

can you post a log?
Run apup with /log command
make a new file on your desktop by right clicking then go down to new -> Text document
It makes a new text file on your desktop... change the name to "apup log.bat" without the quotes
then put in this
Then save the file and move it to where your apup is stored... run that bat file and look for the log file.
or run apup2 then look for the log file(it always makes one)
Post the log file here so we can see the problem.
