XP Pro x64 w/SP2.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Security Update Redistributable x86 is shown in black, all others are blue; as mentioned yesterday.

The following key was not found by a search of the registry

Have no idea as to why the difference.

The registry key you show there is for the x64 one I believe. I will uninstall my x64 version and see if I can find the x86 one.

Ya its the X64 version.. soon as I uninstall 2008 x64 the registry entry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{5FCE6D76-F5DC-37AB-B2B8-22AB8CEDB1D4} disappears.

whatacrock you have x64 OS right? uninstall your x86 version on 2008 and see if {9BE518E6-ECC6-35A9-88E4-87755C07200F} disappears and that it turns black in AP.

@ViroMan... uninstalled visual c++ 2008 ie 9.0.30929.17, 9.0.30729.4148, and 9.0.30729.6161 -- these were the 3 entries for x86.
Ran ap and checked the visual C++ 2008 now shows it as black.

Yeah I have XP Pro x64 on separate hdd in my XPx86 machine.

Ran ap once to install vc++ 2008 and then checked- returned a pretty blue once more.
Upon checking add/remove problems there are 3 entries for x86 vc++2008
9.0.30927.17
9.0.30927.6161
9.0.30729.6161
Previously I had one entry as 9.0.30927.4148, this has been replace with 9.0.30927.6161

ohh so you have multiple versions installed.

On my x86 system there are two versions of 2008 VC++ so uninstalled both...reran ap and selected 2008.
Once finished checked add/remove programs and only one is now displayed .. 9.0.30927.6161

You should only be able to install one in the x86 system. You can install x86 stuff in an x86 system but, you can't install x64 stuff. In an X64 system you can install both. OHH btw the install commands for APM's are working for AP right? You should also be able to remove them with AP.

The install commands work for ap.
Did a little reading about 2008VC++ with multiple entries displaying and it seems each have different libraries and work side by side and the program choses which one it needs.

Never tried to uninstall with ap as have no idea how to !!

exactly... thats why you can have 12 different versions like I did. Damn steam... installs all these different versions. Waste of space I call it.

As I said in #62 - I was in XP Pro x64 so uninstalling version 2008 to see if {9BE518E6-ECC6-35A9-88E4-87755C07200F} disappears won't work; it is not there at all - I searched for it, remember? Hard to see if something disappears when that somethings has not appeared.

desertjerry I know what you said. I am just trying to get confirmation from whatacrock that {9BE518E6-ECC6-35A9-88E4-87755C07200F} should be there if you have a proper install. Since you say one thing and I say another... we need a third party to discover if it generates a different ID for each install OR if you or I have the proper ID.

ViroMan.. I have checked the registry and {9BE518E6-ECC6-35A9-88E4-87755C07200F} does exist.
I unstalled 2008 and rechecked the registry once more and did not find the entry.
Reinstalled 2008 checked once and confirm that once again it appeared.


DesertJerry I checked for your registry reference and could not find it.

I'm sending this from Win7 Ultimate 64bit - all blue here.

I fired up #2 system > XP Pro x64 w/Sp2 > APUP and APUP2 updates > AutoPatcher >Windows Addons C++ 2008 SP1 black > Updated > blue - so it must have the same key number as you reported.

I have no idea as to why my #1 system is reporting the different key number - I guess I'll just have to live with until/unless I can figure out what is causing the odd number.

Ok so let me get this strait...
For you DesertJerry your #1 system is XP x86 SP3 and your #2 is XP Pro x64 Sp2.
If that is correct then your #1 system should have the x86 installs only. The x64 installs should not even show up for you. As you say... I have no idea why that one install is giving you a different install ID. I can't included that in there for detection because it would mess up detection for the other one.

I will add to main list since your x64 agrees with all the ID's as well as Whatacrock's systems do.

Checked the registry on my x86 system and {9BE518E6-ECC6-35A9-88E4-87755C07200F}, so this one is common to both x86 and x64.

Your description is not quite correct. I have two (2) separate systems. My older one presently has XP Pro w/SP3, XP Pro x64 w/SP2 and Win7 Ultimate w/SP1. My new one, presently #2 and soon to be #1 becuase of its newer components; has XP Pro w/SP3 and XP Pro x64 w/SP2 - as I get things sorted out to where I want them I will add Win7 Ultimate 32 and 64 bit w/SP1 to it and uninstall Ultimate from the older system. I will then add Win7 Professional to the older one.

I am doing all of this to keep myself busy and to stay familier with what others may need help with - being retired has advantages. When I'm convinced Windows 8 can be installed in a multi-boot configuration with what I presently have I MAY add it to the mix.

don't get windows 8. From what I read in a few places it is not focused on desktop use. Its like the vista of desktops but the windows 7 for tablets.
