Microsoft Security Programs.

There are the following:

Malicious Software Removal Tool 32/64 bit versions - updates monthly. (windows-kb890830-v#.#.exe and windows-kb890830-x64-v#.#/exe)

WindowsDefender.msi and WindowsDefender-x64.msi (applies to XP)

Microsoft Security Essentials 2 (x86 and x64 versions) - applies to XP x86 w/SP3, Vista w/SP1 and Win7 (if Windows Defender is installed it turns it off rather than uninstalling it - it is not compatible with XP Pro x64 and will not install)

Microsoft Safety Scanner 32/64 bit versions [msert.exe] (expires 10 days after being downloaded - must be re-downloaded to remain effective)

I would assert that these programs are important and deserve to be included in AutoPatcher.

I mention them all becuase I think they should be included all in one place as a Security Addon?

MRT is already in.
Windows Defender is already in... Well at least in windows XP x64 I don't remember if its in the others. Although I think its and older one.
Microsoft Security Essentials... could be OK.
MSERT would be a pain in the ass to constantly keep updated. although it could be useful. Someone would have to download it each day md5 it and then upload the changed script.

I agree with DesertJerry with regards to this being part of autopatcher but upon reading the thread started by him in Autopatcher Addon & Extras Module Depot under the title of Microsoft Security Programs it looks that the script is messy and further more has not been updated since December 2010.
Therefore I would assume that the script needs to be scrutinized under a microscope to see what can done , even to the point of starting afresh with a new script.
To take it one step further would suggest a poll could be taken to see how many use and like to see this module updated, just a suggestion people!!

Ran across this: Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit_3.5_TechPreview_Setup.msi at Microsoft downloads. Had never heard of it till today, but was wondering if anyone else had used it to protect their system(s) and should it be added to AutoPatcher?

It looks intereesting but, I wonder how much of an exra strain it puts on the system. It needs .NET 2.0 to install(which everyone should have), and does not work with x64 systems.
Its only 6mb, we could possibly add it to the download list but, not have it recommended so it does not auto install.

So far I've installed it in XP Pro w/SP3, XP Pro x64 w/SP2, and Win7 Ultimate 32 & 64 bit w/SP1. I am aware it is a 32-bit program and it did install in \Program Files (x86) - now I'm waiting to see what it does and/or if someone try to invade my system - only time will tell.

Reading the User's Guide I found: "Additionally, on 64 bit systems, some application specific mitigations are only applicable when running on 32 bit process."

Also, EMET does require the user to configure it using the included GUI a Command Line Tool or Group Policy - somethign that would have to be pointed out if it is included in AutoPatcher.

Microsoft Security Essentials has been updated..version now is 4.1.522.0 both x86 and x64 systems.

It updated on my computer but still says prerelease. Is this the final?

When I was in XP Pro w/SP3 program updated itself but in Help > About showed prerelease.

Booted to XP Pro x64 w/SP2 and update not performed as I had downloaded the newer version - when I ran setup it required an uninstallation of previous: 4.1.0509.0 - and the download installed as Microsoft Security Essentials (no prerelease).

Looks like it is final.

Will have to go back and uninstall old - install new in XP Pro and probably Win7 32/64 to verify no longer pre-release. (Unless someone else, in the meantime, updates or installs and posts results before I return.)

Later, XP Pro x86 - uninstalled Prerelease > installed latest download > now listed as Microsoft Security Essntials (no prerelease) - so it is safe to say this is final and AutoPatcher can be updated accordingly.
