Hi All,
Sorry to be bone, but I can't find the link to download Autopatcher. I seem to keep going around in circles and coming back to the updater (APUP)
BTW, the issue I'm trying to resolve is the failure of kb898461. Having tried all the listed fixes I found online, I thought Autopatch might provide a workaround.
In anticipation - thanks everyone.

If the mentioned KB fails to install, how do you think APUP will help you?
To download AP, go to the Homepage. It's right there - the one and only entry in Download Area.

Thank's for this advice, if I go to the home page, it opens at
http://www.autopatch...tcher-download/
which has one link (which takes me to updater package)
http://www.autopatch...tcher-download/
and on that page there's a further two links
1. Downloads the updater (http://www.autopatch.../apup131NEW.zip)
and the 2second one takes you to here
http://www.autopatch...more-main-page/
with a link back to
http://www.autopatch...-apup-download/
So I'm as confused as ever.
As for whether Autopatch will resolve the KB issue, I'm not certain it will. But to avoid a rebuild etc etc I thought it would be worth a go.

Make that 2 of us
Did you download the apup131NEW.zip file and extract it? You should have
Did you run apup.exe, after APUP started did you select 3 boxes (at least),
... AutoPatcher Updater - APUP (apup.exe), the program that connects to the internet and downloads the releases.
... AutoPatcher Engine - AutoPatcher (autopatcher.exe), the program that will install the updates on your system.
... Any release, but at least an OS (XP SP3 x86)?
That makes 3 boxes checked from the releases list. Did you download the package, did it finish, is it Official? I would figure you got this far otherwise you couldn't install the update unless you simply double clicked it?
How did you install said update? read this post - http://www.autopatch...228 - the download link is dead because of forum changes, you already knoiw how to get the zip file, everything else should be relevant.
Now, what exactly is the issue, don't be so vague! Is it simply not blue in AutoPatcher after you try to install the update and reopen AutoPatcher? What does the log file for the update say - check Windows for the log, search for the log file by the kb number, read the log.
The bit about no main page is pretty straight forward, there is no longer an 'autopatcher.com' page, the main page is the forums - autopatcher.com/forums/ - that's all.
This is a good way to have started this conversation...

I downloaded the apup.zip file and extracted it, I ran apup.exe and checked these 3 boxes, a, b, c. It went fine (or not). I ran AutoPatcher (autopatcher.exe) and selected such and such updates, all went fine except abc.exe, it was still black after installation, after my system rebooted and I re ran AutoPatcher.
Can someone help me?
Can someone help me?
Btw, any successful install should have the update blue after re running AutoPatcher?
Also note, if you should use the new beta APUP do not check AutoPatcher Updater, you will delete the beta file and redownload the older version.

Hi Veterans
Thanks very much for this. What I didn't see was that I needed to select the engine element, as a selection. That's all downloading now, and I don't anticipate any further issues. I appreciate your advice about my approach.

Well your right about it possibly being a little ambiguous. Perhaps I will combine the AP download into the apup downloads to prevent this in the future.

There should be an AP Quick-Start Guide added to the releases list, a pdf file that explains the basics with at least 1 pic each of both APUP and AutoPatcher opened up. We had a pdf but it needs updating, throwing something together should be pretty easy. Take a few pics, edit my post I link to above, add a few notes walla! Long overdue IMO

whats really long overdue is the wiki we really need.
