hi all
This may well have been asked before but since the main page is gone and I can't find the answer I'll ask here.
Just a few times, really, this is a pretty common question, how do I get started

- see
http://www.autopatch...228 - the download link to the zip file is dead due to forum changes but everything else applies. The 4GB limit is dealt with in APUP2. If you use the beta apup file don't select AutoPatcher Updater, it will delete the beta and redownload 1.3.

I just reinstalled XP Home SP3 and of course I now need to patch it with all the latest fixes etc. so I downloaded Autopatcher double clicked on apup.exe however I'm not sure which boxes need to be checked to get it working because only Autopatcher For Windows XP SP3 (x86) is checked and this only downloads the relevant patches for my system this doesn't download the actual Autopatcher program and it's here where I'm coming a little unstuck because I'm not 100% on which other boxes I need to check besides Autopatcher For Windows XP SP3 (x86)
Normally these would be checked automatically when you click the apup.exe but for some reason there not checked automatically in the latest version -

2 things:
First, AutoPatcher Engine is AutoPatcher (autopatcher.exe), AutoPatcher Updater is APUP (apup.exe), it's a good idea to have these 2 selected along with any other releases you want, this way the programs will stay updated. Don't forget the warning about using beta apps, any beta in the folder in most cases will get deleted, right now only apup2.exe (beta) - if you try APUP2, uncheck AutoPatcher Updater from the releases list.
Come to think of it, I haven't looked at the script in ages but it would seem you could have both executables in the same folder if one was apup2.exe and the other was apup.exe, anyway, see the warning here -
http://www.autopatch...apup2-download/
Second, You want at least the 3 boxes selected, any other release is an addon and up to your discretion, whether it be the DirectX or .NET package - whatever. The only problem is how you update a system when you need to install
EVERYTHING!
I do all major updates first and individually, if I want to add DirectX I do it alone, reboot. .NET, same, alone, reboot. You could easily freeze a system if not outright break it by selecting everything to update at once, you could have so much stuck in RAM your system would puke, updates stepping on other updates. AutoPatcher provides these packages for experienced users who have a proper sequence that works for them, but we've had users come in here and gripe after they selected literally everything to install all at the same time - the OS with DirectX, .NET, while updating IE from 6 to 7 - simply crazy.
A smarter approach is to update your install disk every year (some time interval) so you get most of it done with a new OS install, leaving less to install using AutoPatcher. Many people like RyanVM for this - Google is your friend but be warned, their forums are busy with lots of pages of info and it's not hard to get overwhelmed. If I didn't already have my approach I'm not sure I would survive at RyanVM - too much info and too many packages

Don't let me dissuade you, have a look, lots of people over there to help.

So i just wanted to check is it just the top two Autopatcher Updater 1.3.0.1 & Autopatcher Engine 5.6.0.100 that need to be checked in addition to Autopatcher For Windows XP SP3 (x86)
These 3, or at least the first 2 and the native OS for now will be selected, APUP2 (still beta) may have done away with the pre selection, I forget. You also have the
Options tab but it only matters after the first run on a given system.
