Test script for Win XP x86

Locked

Whatacrock's Photo Whatacrock 26 Sep 2012

A decision has been made by myself on the Add Ons section which I recently added to the Windows XP x86 test release.

The Add Ons section has been removed and script has been updated as well as various items which have been uploaded to my dropbox. Script date 20120925
For the moment please use APUP v1 as ViroMan is currently working on updating it and will post when this is ready for use.

To those who have downloaded the test since it was changed...please run the script again and the release will revert to pre Add Ons release. The script will take care so no need to delete from your autopatcher.

Just in case there are any errors as usual please post your report

I'm fairly sure that this test release is at the stage of being moved to the main list as an official.
To all the authors of various updates of the Windows XP x86 release you'll be glad to know only very minor adjustments were made to your work....anyway I wish to thank you all for the efforts

When run in XP Pro x86 AutoPatcher still lists Microsoft Windows XP Addons Specific to Operating System under List of available items.

I though it had been removed.

Hi Wac :) I've been messing with your script the last few days, a lady I help needed to get moved back to AutoPatcher, I'm hoping this will work for her.

Looks good so far, I did find a few things in Oct2012 script...

I know you got one of them but here are all the v2 files I came across:
Spoiler

If I'm not mistaken, http://support.micro....com/kb/2756822 (KB2756822) - has been updated too.

I found this error:
Spoiler

Now, just suggestions to lean out the script a bit.

You might create an archive for these parent modules, somethin' along the lines...:
Spoiler

There's a lot of removal commands, no reason to keep em all, 4 or 5 months is usually good enough. I created for myself a cleaner script, only removals, going back one year, with all commands printed to the log - somethin' like this:
Spoiler

I would have a few of my users run the script to clean stuff I might have forgotton about or they might have missed if they waited too long between updates. Everything is written to the log:
Spoiler

Anyway :)

I'm on dialup and I'm tryin' to let the script download (a local run) as many files as possible without grabbing them from an existing release, to make sure the script functions properly, about 40MB left. I'm off to my class, when I finish tomorrow I will load the release and report any strangeness :)

Here are the changes that have applied to October Windows XP x86 script as per suggestion and reporting by _def_x_
The version number of several files have been addressed.
The typo errors have been corrected.
The script has been cleaned up the xp parent apms now in a archive, and preaction command changes.

The script and changes have been uploaded to my dropbox, same location as usual, and please report any problems.

A short note for _def_x_ I am currently working on removing all the preaction commands to a batch file(it is a working progress, slowly mind you) and once this works correctly the script will look much cleaner and easier to sort through.

Ran XP_Test.bat - three times > Verification error each time (not sure why).

XP Pro w/SP3 > Started AutoPatcher - everything under Windows XP x86 submenu(s) blue - as I expected.

@ViroMan---resorted the script, removed a missed superseded update and updated numerous apms. Have emailed the goodies to you.

For anyone wishing to test before ViroMan has uploaded to releases2.list you can use the following batch file archive.

Please extract archive to your apup folder and execute from location.
As usual please report any problems.

You might have a look at this error in WindowsXP-KB2749655_x86_ENU.apm,

Module 'Update for Windows XP (KB2749655)' (unique id: 'KB2749655_x86_ENU') reports 'WINDOWS_XP_NON-CRITICAL_PARENT'
as its parent, but such module does not exist or is not loaded in the right order.

This should fix it,

[Behavior]
ParentID=WINDOWS_XP_X86_NON-CRITICAL_PARENT
UniqueID=KB2749655_x86_ENU

You fixed most of the issues I was having before I had time to post
... the failing v2 files - size & hash
... the mislabeled .7z - xp_x86_parents_20121011.7z File does not exist!!!
... the dead link - WindowsXP-KB2732052-x86-ENU.exe: 404 - File not found

You're getting close. I'll post anything else I find, I feel I'm forgetting something.

For any brave soul wishing to test the latest version of the Windows XP x86 script, work has been completed on one of the batch files associated with it. Have commented out the second as it is next in line and added it's work to XP32.bat. It should do as it is supposed to but I know there will be issues..namely KB2721691_x86_enu.apm as this will appear in two locations for those who previosly downloaded the script.(for those that have please delete the apm from Critical and "msxml4-KB2721691-enu.exe" from Critical_files). This was an error on my part as it is shared with Vista x86 release and needs to stay in Components\__msxml.

Otherwise usual drill people please report any errors or any suggestions you may have
Link to the bat file is in post # 92

People work is continuing on the latest incarnation of the Windows XP x86 Test script . Am posting this for any of you brave souls to give it a run and report any errors or modifications which may be needed.
A big kudos goes out to ViroMan who was gracious enough to rewrite the batch file and helped out with the testing and further development of it.

If you are to test and using a clean backup of the current main release as your base, please run apup twice as this eliminated the MD5 checksum errors you may encounter.
For those wishing to try it for the first time please make a backup of your apup and test from there.

The script and changes have been uploaded to my dropbox, same location as usual, and please report any problems.

Please extract the archive to your back apup and execute form there.

Again I apologise for the delay.....have fun people

Downloaded latest XP_Test.7z file, unzipped and ran batch file.

XP Pro w/SP3 > AutoPatcher

Windows XP x86 only item with blue dot.

Windows XP x86 - Critical Updates > one item > Update for Root Certificates 11/2012 (KB931125): which is odd as I had updated things online using Microsoft Update and did not expect to see anyhting. Anyway > clicked next > finished.

Restarted AutoPatcher > item now blue.
