Firstly welcome to the forums.

The reason behind the errors is Microsoft have been removing files from their servers and are uncertain if they are permanent or temporary removals. Therefore the scripts have not been updated so that they do not try to download the files that are missing.'

Even though the files are not available, your autopatcher may display unsupported/unofficial version you can still utilise it.
A little patience may be required for script changes.

Hello Whatacrock ant dkdk_it, thanks for looking into this.

But... I think I owe you an apology. I had those error messages every time I tried running apup.exe (one remains, btw, see below)

Only today did I realise there was also autopatcher.exe in the same folder, which actually installed over 120 updates that had been downloaded previously (whereas apup just stops on error).

I include below the last error remaining as of today in case a dev is interested but I am covered now thanks to you folks.

Glad to see that is down to just update that causes an error...that particular update seems to be a permanent problem so just ignore it for now.
Apup will stop if there is a download error so this is a good thing. The log file it produces is an excellent yard stick to what files MS is removing the download links for.

Autopatcher is the installer side so whatever has been selected will be installed to update your system.

Not sure on the August updated script but there is a test one that I created(August) and the files that were missing download links have been removed from it.
Maybe this will be used as an official release,we need to wait and see.

I just tried autopatcher for my old XP Home SP3 system (used as a backup) and also received the "one or more files failed verification" message. There were about 240meg of files d/l'd but no autopatcher (that I could find) to install them, only the apup.exe. This was a mere twenty minute d/l, the error message says to try the d/l again; when I do, it runs a couple of minutes and gives me the error message again.

FWIW, here's the logfile:

You have missed a release that is needed for the autopatcher engine. You need to download it and will find near the top of the releases list.
Once downloaded you will find it the root folder of apup.
to use autopatcher, double click the executuable, then there are EULA pages that need to ticked to continue to the main window. From there it is the users choice of which downloads to install, a word of advice if its a clean install the let autopatcher chose the updates and activate autopatcher to install them.
When finsihed allow the reboot and repeat as many times that is necessary for the updates that you want to be installed.
Cheers

Thanks, will try again. This is a new install on an old system given me by a neighbor; it had so much adware and trojans that I just wiped out the C drive and started over. For some reason XP Pro would not install decently so I reverted to an old XP Home SP2 disk then upgraded to SP3, this install is working fine but when I try to upgrade Micro$oft tells me the validation code is incorrect. Seeking a way around their WGA nonsense is what led me here.

The only d/l link I find gives me "apup131NEW.zip"; is this what I need or is there something else?
