first i like to apologise if i have repeated this but i haven't found a answer myself
Situation 1
i have an XP machine, and have the SP3 Disk. after installing it i preform windows update.
i have to download an extra 100+ updates for it to be up to date.
when i choose the option 'Autopatcher for windows xp sp3', is this downloading just up to SP3, or is it downloading EVERY UPDATE after SP3.
Situation 2
i have a Windows 7 machine with SP1. obviously new updates are being released every week or so.
if i choose the option 'Autopatcher for Windows 7 SP1', will this also download the updates that have been released after it to this date?
im sure both situations are smiler but i just wanted to make sure this is the right Program for me.

It will download all the updates after what ever SP it says it is for to the point we have updated the scripts. The scripts are not always up to the minute updated but, are generally 99% up to date.
This is not a service to keep your machine up to date all the time. You can use it for that reason but, it is mostly targeted towards people who want to download the updates only once and have a backup of the updates in case a reinstall is needed, to install updates on multiple computers, or to download the updates from a place that has faster internet and use it at your place.

Thank you VIroMan my plan for my XP machine was to use this program to download EVERY UPDATE FOR XP (even after SP3) and store it so when i need to reinstall it i can just run it.
but a Follow up question: after installing SP3 from the CD will Autopatcher know which updates are already installed so it makes it quicker to install?

Autopatcher WILL detect the updates that are already installed... depending on if they were properly slip streamed or not. Some slip stream applications don't seem to do it properly. Don't ask me how you can mess something up as simple as passing the same commands to each update to make it activate the slip stream process but, some still manage. It doesn't really matter because if it is not detected it will try to install and the install itself will just instantly reject the install and AP will go on to the next update.

i just realised something if you say it will download all the updates from the SP you choose and onwards then why is there options for xp for SP1 when (as you say) will download all the updates after that anyway?

Autopatcher updater will download the updates for Windows XP Sp3 that are relevant to the Operating system.
Same goes for Windows 7 SP1.
Same goes for Windows 7 SP1.

so when i download the XP SP3 it will NOT download the 101+ additional updates i would need to download if i was to use the CD for SP3

I think your confused... ok here are the steps.
1) Install Windows XP SP3.
2) Install your firewall & antivirus(THAT IS ALWAYS THE SECOND STEP IF YOU HAVE THEM.
3) Download apup.
4) Run apup and select "AutoPatcher for Windows XP (x86) SP3" and "AutoPatcher Engine 5.6.0.100" and .NET script is a recommended download too since WU will want you to download them as well.
* apup WILL download all the updates that your OS at its current SP3 state would need as if you were using Windows Update. It will NOT download updates for a pre-SP3 OS, ONLY updates that you would need after installing SP3.
5) Run AutoPatcher and it will auto-select critical updates. You may select more updates to install if you wish.
6) Sit back... have a drink while the updates install.
(don't forget to reboot when they are installed)
