Tweak Me! looks interesting but does require @ minimum .NET 3.5 - http://pxc-coding.co...folio/tweak-me/

One other issue I found is that it is a 32bit program - others are 32&64bit capable and I'm not advocating putting a 32bit Tweaker on a 64bit system - many tweaks would be missed.

Installed TweakMe! on my Windows XP x64 for testing and found that there were no tweaks listed, the other buttons supplied listings.
Then installed on Windows XP x86 and all the tweaks were listed so this gives me the impression that the application works better in x86.
Even still will include in the Admins package as gives users a choice of tweaking programs to utilize.

Almost to the stage of releasing for the general public to test if willing so will keep you posted.

My part in testing these new scripts is done!!
Time to release into the wild for others to test and comment upon.
A few notes to take into consideration:

0/. Please make a backup of your APUP/Autopatcher before running the test scripts..The responsiblity is yours and yours alone !
1/. Testing the Admin script you will need also to download the Extras (AddOns) script in the releases.list with it. There are items moved from it to Admin.
2/. The Admin script is an ongoing build so may be updated from time to time as more items are included.
3/. Please report any errors/problems and will be attended to as soon as possible..
4/. Any suggestions for additions or omissions will be considered

Copy and paste the url link into your APUP1.4.2 or later

Windows Admin script dated 20130128
Extras script dated 20130115

I'm assuming you mean the dropbox url above? I did that and nothing happened but a finish with nothing downloaded - or did I miss something somewhere?

In APUP 1.4.5 I dropped the above releases.list in 'Options', clicked 'Get List', and 2 scripts were listed - 'Admin Pack' & 'Extras Addon Pack'. Clicked 'Next' and the scripts began to download. Roughly 125MB between the 2 addons.

Tried it again - still nothing. When I copied the URL I got: http://dl.dropbox.co...6/releases.list - how can that be correct? What is missing between the .co and the 6 ; all's I see are ... - something is truncating the address.

I got the same results in XP Pro x64 - no tweaks; odd!! Booted into Win7 Ultimate 64bit w/SP1 - the tweaks appeared, so problem appears to be related to XP Pro x64.

Yeah, you're missing a bunch in your path, from .co to 6/ -> m/u/80455806/.

Complete path - http://dl.dropbox.co...6/releases.list

You should be able to single-click link above, select 'copy link location', and then paste into APUP, at least in Firefox 18.

If you mouse-over your link in the quote above and then mouse-over my link posted you can see the difference.

Also, I've set to false 'trimURLs' in Firefox. It's been so long I forget if this is one of the affects, trimming shows a maximum number of characters, whereas no trimming shows full path. Might affect copying links as well, not sure.

Adding the missing info solved the problem. I don't think it's your fault, I think this web site truncates the URL when people add it to messages. I use IE. You may have to post it like: HTTP:// dl.dropbox.com /m/u/80455806/ releases.list with the spaces included and then tell the user/downloader to remove the spaces. Unless someone else knows of a better method. Mouse over the URL's - nothing changed. In IE it's not 'copy link location' it's right click the truncated URL and select 'copy shortcut'.

OK, I see what you did wrong, you simply copied the truncated URL text right off the page.

When the full path URL is needed to drop in a download manager or APUP in this case, mouse-over the link to bring up the context menu. In Firefox the menu item is 'Copy Link Location', and apparently in IE it's 'Copy Shortcut', then paste the complete URL into the repsective application.

Alternatively, if downloading link directly just click the link to start the download.

@DesertJerry - - If using IE easiest thing to do is click the url link..it will open the list, copy the url from the address bar, then click options in apup,, paste the link and continue from there.
As _def_x_ stated click get list and you should see the 2 releases...from there its eazy peazy..

I was vague, sorry. My mention of running the mouse over the link was in response to your comment "what is missing". I meant to say to see the difference between the 2 links - mouse-over both of em'.

I also meant that to bring up the context menu to copy a link - right-click the link, instead I said 'single-click'.

There are many tweaking utilties out there and some may or not work on various versions of Windows; i.e XP, Vista, 7 or 8. Mention has been made of Gigatweak and Tweak Me in these postings.

One I started using years ago is called X-Setup Pro, from XQDC, and it had an extensive list of tweaks that were/are compatible with XP, Vista, 7, and 8. In fact I find it more informative and extensive in the information provided and the tweaks possible than either of the two mentioned earlier.

The problem is that the folks behind it have, basically, ceased to exist and help or forums is non-existent but the program itself is still available for downloading. I would like to recommend that anyone interested check this web page for further information and a valid serial number for use by anyone: http://www.x-setup.net/ - use MajorGeeks or BetaNews to get the actual downlaod. (It was downloaded over 3,000,000 times if the information on the page mentioned is believed.)

X-Setup Pro 9.2.100 looks interesting, nice they offered a valid serial number to do away with the 30-day trial.

Someone should grab the portable version (7.5MB) from MajorGeeks - http://majorgeeks.co..._USB_d5565.html - I will try it later.

If you want the installer (4.5MB) - http://www.majorgeek...wnload4083.html

Here's the serial number (key): XSA092-11TA9R-8K12YT

There's mention of viewing the readme file to install the software properly for the portable version.

Personal preference - I uninstalled Tweak Me and Gigatweak - think I'll stick with X-Setup Pro, it is more informative about what it is doing and has a more extensive selection of possible tweaks.

Another utility I'd recommend is Startup Manager 1.5.2.25 - a free download from http://www.softpedia...anager-BS.shtml
It has an easy to understand interface and most users should find it easy to understand and make changes between what they want to start when Windows starts and what is not necessay on every startup. It does include a built-in RUN command to use when the user does want a program not presently running.
Though is it a 32-bit program it does a pretty good job of displaying startups in in all versions of XP, Vista, 7, or 8

It shouldn't matter if its a 32 bit program that manages start up stuff, I think. Start up things should be universal to any windows OS type XP and up.

edit:
So I looked into the x-setup pro and am fairly impressed with the number of things that can be done. This reminds me of Tweak UI but, with much more information on what does what. I noticed that it doesn't understand that some things don't affect win7 yet, still shows them though. Still, this defiantly could be a nice thing to add.

@DesertJerry -- instead of using a startup manager why not use a tool Microsoft includes in it's Operating Sytems namely "msconfig".
May not do as much as the startup manager but is useful enough for the job at hand....

Looking into X-Setup Pro for addition to Admin Pack so as to give users a choice of which to utilize.

An update X-Setup has been added to the Admin Pack...

A note for those wanting to use this: The installer requires input from the user as there is no silent installer available.

The serial number (to stop the nag screen) can be found in the description section of the apm..XSetupPro.apm...use notepad or similar to read and copy the serial number. Those uncertain where apm is located here you go autopatcher:\modules\Admin\XSetupPro.apm

It is advisable to copy the serial number before starting the installer. Those who do not get the serial here it is "Serial key provided to Majorgeeks by XQDC Ltd for anyone to use: XSA092-11TA9R-8K12YT"

Updated script has been uploaded to my DropBox location and dated 20130201......dropbox link still the same as before
