I'm a newbie so perhaps I'm even more clueless than I thought. When I double-click on the downloaded file "Apup_1_4.zip" to extract it, I receive the message "The compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted." If I right click on the zipped folder and select "Extract All..." I am told that "No files to Extract". The file size is 1,099 KB. Am I missing something?
While browsing the forums in search of an answer, my AV software informed me:

Firstly welcome to the forums....You are correct with the filesize of Apup_1_4.zip. .Are you trying to open the zip with a compression program or the Operating System itself ??A suggestion for extraction: Create a folder on your hdd named Apup..right click and extract to this folder and with luck the folder will contain the necessary files. By the way there is a newer version available for apup and can be found here http://www.autopatch...270-ap-sweeper/

I'm using XP to open the Zip file as I've done hundreds of times before. I either double click the icon (which opens the Zip folder) and click "Extract all files" in the "Folder Tasks" on the left, OR right click the icon and select "Extract All..." (which opens the "Extraction Wizard"). Both fail with Apup_1_4.zip. Do I need to use a 3rd party extraction tool? I never have before and I've been doing this a loooong time (I'm an AutoPatcher newbie, not a computer newbie).
I'd prefer to stick with the solid release for now rather than the newer version.

I decided to be brave and downloaded the new version with Sweeper (Apup_1_4_2.zip). It unZips perfectly. There seems to be a problem with Apup_1_4.zip.
Now to figure out how to use it all...

There are 2 issues here.
The file size is wrong so you have a partial download - size=(1125238 bytes). You should get used to checking the file against a checksum if one is given, the zip file has one, check the download page.
Here's a scan run on Apup_1_4.zip - all clean.

If Avast is complaining of a redirect, this is likely TRUE! I was contacted maybe 2 or 3 weks ago about this issue, more Google redirects, I checked them out from school and sure enough, there were at least 4 links from Google searches that redirected. I don't remember the searches but I do remember 1 or 2 pointing to the XP forums, as well the 7 forums - all redirected to spurious sites.

Your the second person who has noted a problem with the zip. I duno why people are having problems except as was stated by def x that you somehow got an incomplete download.
As for the redirect. First time I have heard of it since the last "cleaning" that was done. If I could get in contact with frank who has dropped off the radar completely I would talk to him about it.

I downloaded Apup_1_4.zip multiple times with the same result each time: "The compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted." The checksum should be incorrect: the file is corrupt. The real issue is "why"? I don't think the problem lies with my machine, my network connection or the internet. I've done a lot of downloads and corrupt files are extremely rare. The few that have occurred can be remedied by a second download. I tend to think that I am correctly receiving what is being sent: a corrupt file.
Anyhow...
I downloaded Apup_1_4_2.zip (with Sweeper) as suggested by Whatacrock. It downloaded and unziped without a problem. (see Fig. 1)
I then ran apup.exe (which added apup.log and temp_bin to the directory), got the list (which added temp_bin to the directory), and selected AutoPatcher Updater and AutoPatcher Engine. (see Fig. 2)
Then I hit "Next".
Updater reads "Fetching executable and Updater " and "Finished".
I click Finish and this is what the directory looks like. (Fig. 3)
and the sub-directory abup_bin (Fig. 4)
I apologize if I'm doing something extremely dumb here but where is Autopatcher.exe?
Anyhow...

Don't know why you can't get a complete download for 1.4 but 1099KB is an incomplete download. The VirustTotal scan I performed fetched the file directly from the download link, it confirmed the file as good, as well gave a sha-256 sum, it was the same checksum when downloading the file directly from AutoPatcher. I also extracted the zip without issue and fired up the programs and all worked as expected.
Note: Make sure you understand Sweeper before you run it!!!
No one is blaming your system or capabilities, the fact remains you got an incomplete download for v1.4 but a good download for v1.4.2. It very well could be at AutoPatcher's end, it may puke out a bad file depending on who connects to the server, you may have something running that the server doesn't like - or vise-versa.
A few things to keep in mind when running APUP 1.4.2
...notice the scripts listed when 'Get List' is clicked - don't check AutoPatcher Updater 1.4.0.0 unless you want APUP 1.4, it will (might) overwrite APUP 1.4.2. You can rename the folder (the extracted zip should create???) if you want to test, then experiment with various scripts as you please, just extract and rename \apup to whatever - \aptest. You can run multiple instances just not in the same folder.

and so on.
If you want to beta test any scripts for the cause - hit 'Options', edit the url:

Just a note regarding releases2 ---this is just a testing area and most of the releases there are ready to be moved to the main list but remain here in case any problems arises and then repaired before moving. Some of the releases are all signed just in case that you need to run sweeper for removal of rogue module files or executables that were missed in the releases.
The releases are distinguishable by the release date that is it is usually different to the release in the main page.

After looking at your images I noticed you did check the AutoPatcher Engine script, if everything downloaded properly this is what you should see in a minimal \apup folder, that is, only... these 2 scripts!
...AutoPatcher Updater - you downloaded v1.4.2 (the zip) so don't check v1.4.0.0 or v1.3.0.1 should you see it unless you want that version, you may in a second folder for testing.
...AutoPatcher Engine - you need this script, adds additional folders and the AutoPatcher executable - v5.6.0.100. You will always want this script after extracting a new apup.zip file and running apup.exe for the first time.
NOTE: I forgot about the script appending apup.exe to apup.exe.old when selecting a different version of APUP from the list. So, you have both APUP v1.4.0 and v1.4.2, v1.4.2 I'm guessing is apup.exe.old. If you want to switch between the 2 versions, use .bak and .old. You'll need to append each exe with a different .whatever, if you try to remove .old before you add .bak to the other file you will get an error - file already exists - give it a try.
Note2Self: I have never figured out why the apup123.zip doesn't contain the needed AutoPatcher files??? I used 7-Zip with Ultra selected on \apup - a 7.8MB folder was compressed down to 2.0MB, pretty reasonable size.
I ran APUP and Sweeper so the 2 .log files might be extra, regardless, you need all the files and folders seen in the image I posted to have a minimal working program(s), of course it's useless without updates to install.
When you select additional scripts, maybe an addon pack, the \modules folder along with new .rti files named similar to the script will appear after the download finishes - DirectX will have a directx.rti file to verify the download is Official.
Make sure you have at least the files in the image otherwise something wont work. What does the apup.log reveal - any errors, missing files??? Run APUP again, select AutoPatcher Engine ONLY, when done check apup.log, post the log if you still have issues.

I waited too long to edit post #10 so... I repeated exactly what has been done according to the OP. I downloaded and extracted apup142.zip, ran APUP, selected AutoPatcher Updater and AutoPatcher Engine.

yes its seems that the AP engine did not download for him.
Also ya.. when you 7z it is a much better compression then zip but, not everyone has 7zip installed so its a no go where as Win XP and up has a built in unzipper.
The ONLY thing I can think of that is preventing you from downloading the zip is possibly your A/V software cutting the download after it thinks it has detected something bad.

It did occur to me that there might be a problem with XP's unzipper, so I installed 7Zip but it had the same result (corrupt file) with

I have added another link to the download area... try that one. I compressed with normal compression instead of max. See if that works for you. Still its 1.4.0 not the newest.
I have a thought... perhaps, something is not allowing 7za to run. If this is true... you will be missing most apm's and AP would not be able to expand and so on. Here is what you can do. Run sweeper with /verbose /test
This will generate a list of reasons why you are not official. Post that log here.

I decided to start over. Deleted everything and downloaded Apup_1_4_3 to the root directory (which I normally avoid).

Strange... When it tells you it finished, it should have already extracted any zips beforehand. The only thing that comes to mind is that 7za.exe is missing from the apup_bin dir. Do you have this dir and file? Also in case you don't know they may need admin rights depending on your account rights.
