Windows XP SP3 (Embedded) - screen is blank

sbartgis's Photo sbartgis 06 Feb 2013

Hello. I am trying AutoPatcher for the first time on my XP SP3 Embedded platform. The log file shows it has downloaded releases.list and I can see the .list has contents. The problem is that the UI shows nothing! I expect there is a common control or MFC library that is needed, but I cannot determine which one.

Firstly Wecome to the forums and now to the nitty gritty: it appears than no releases were selected to download..
A step by step instruction seems to be needed.
1/. Open your apup
2/. click "Get List"
3/. Once the download page appears you should be presented with a list of available releases
A recommended starting point is to select the first items on the page..this will update your apup and autopatcher to the latest versions.
4/. Now you have your selections checked click download and sit back whilst this happens.
5/. When downloads have completed..click Finish

Repeat the above process to download which releases you need

If a release is not included on the download list then it may be on releases2.

Open APUP, click options, and place a 2 just before the dot ------.http://www.autopatcher.com/releases2.list

To return your APUP to main list just click the default button before clicking "Get List"

No, I think he is right wac. He is missing even the basic text that should be on the screen. I will dig up a list of things that the program needs. Your embedded OS may be missing something that windows in general usually has.

edit:
Here is the list that VB says the program needs.
mscomctl.ocx
msvbvm60.dll
stdole2.tlb
scrrun,dll

the ocx and dll files can be registered using regsvr32.exe /s TheFileName . The tlb file probably only needs to be copied in.

Firstly, thank you all very much for this wonderful app and the support. I do appreciate it.

Viro is correct. Even the basic text is not appearing on the screen. All of those DLLs and support files are present in the Windows XPe system. How about Fonts? What font is being used? On my Windows 7 PC, it looks like something other than Arial or Times New Roman. Window Detective reports "Times New Roman CYR" but I do not have a TTF that seems to match up. When I run Netflix on the WinXPe system, I need to add Verdana and Helvetica to the image, so I have seen missing Fonts cause this many times.

I do have Visual Studio 2010 and can probably help. You can PM me information about the source and I can see what I can do to help.

Can you get sweeper to load properly?

I looked around and the font seems to all be Verdana for apup.

I had the option to change fonts int APUP2 but, opted not to have them in apup or even AP2 since it causes so many problems with screen size and item placements. I might be willing to put in a limited set that has the relatively the same font letter size.

ALSO:
noted HERE some people had an older version of a DLL for some reason. You can check if you somehow managed to get a different DLL too. That DLL effects quite a bit of the program and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the culpret in your case as well.
