Posting a message varies

#2 system: XP Pro w/SP3, XP Pro x64 w/SP2, Win7 Pro 64 bit w/SP1, and Win8 64bit.
I mention the above because there have been instances where I am running system #1 and/or system #2 and opted to sign-in to the AutoPatcher forum to post an answer to a question or ask a question about something.
Here's where things get a bit odd and it does not appear to be consistent - my ability to post a readable message gets screwed up. Sometimes what I type/post appears in BOLD, sometimes in ITALICS, later it could be all underlines or strike through and I've done nothing to vary or change settings. I have no idea as to why things are changing and I'd like to make one selection that is the same for a sign-in from any of the operating systems. Possible - how?
Also, if I sign-in from #1 XP Pro w/SP3 and create a posting and later that day sign in from #1 Win7 Ultimate 32bit I can't edit my earlier posting, only quote it; which is a pain when an edit would allow for a clarification or correction to the first posting. Possible?
Many a time I've also had to use notepad to create the posting then go to the forum, select Start New Topic, and paste the message. If I had tried to actually type the message in the new messagebox I find I can't add spaces or make paragraphs.
Anyone have an easy solution?

I don't think the AP forums have had an update since Feb 2012...?
You might try using the Basic editor instead of Standard, toggle 'editing mode' by clicking the uppermost left icon. You insert your own formatting code though, bolding, quotes, colors, but you have more control. Some things don't work like they used too, />/> adds extra characters when done by hand - it adds one more each Preview.
Also, you only have so much time to edit a post, an hour, maybe 2, not sure. Mods and Admin have more time, usually unlimited.
As far as logging in on different setups, the board figures you're someone different, a different OS, a different fingerprint, the software is assuming you're a different person.
ViroMan should have been given full authority over the forum software, including updates, if not, Frank should stop by more than once a year to be sure the software is up to date and safe for all to use, if not apply the latest updates. I figure there's been at least 5 or more updates to IPB since the latest upgrade here - way behind. The software we use on our project site has had 10 or so updates in the last year, but Frank does host the site for free so...

It depends on the forum settings, 'UN & PW Only' is plausable, but there's cookies, time stamps, applets, which should be different on each installation, and numerous other ways. This is an interesting question though, that only Frank could answer with specificity with regard to these forums. I would ask @ MSFN, I know you hang out there, and I think they use IPB forum software too... be curious how they identify users with multi-boot setups, use timestamps, cookies, etc.
