Yeah..that tool is handy, but rather large.
I just ran into a Windows Update error myself, and found that if I stop the Windows Update service (wuauserv
), and delete the files inside these two folders, everything begins to work normally again.
Restart the Windows Update service
A note from Captain Obvious
: I could have used %WINDIR%, but I'm not (yet) ready to write a script...it's 3am here and I'm tired =)
Sorry I didn't grab the exact error number I received...I randomly decided to look at the AP site after fixing my problem to see what was happening w/ one of my fav projects (AP), and came across this post. I figured I'd send you this info in case it comes in handy in the future. If this post is out of place, feel free to relocate or delete it.
Here's another link to MS w/ a FixIt that I haven't tried: http://support.micro...spx?kbid=971058
: After doing the procedure I used, 'Windows last checked for updates' was set to never, as the records of the last update were deleted. The 'ignored updates' I had set, such as Bing Bar and language packs needed to be re-ignored, but other than these two minor items, everything seems to be working again.
Hope this helps!
