Firstly, great work guys. It's good to see you back! :)

I just wanted to know what happens in terms of old updates. Lets say I install a version of XP from 2001, will APUP install all the updates released from then until now or does it only install the most recent?

Thanks for clearing this up.

As far as I know:
It installs all the downloads AFTER SP2
So you first have to install SP2 (there's a direct download on the Windowssite) and after that install you just use apup to get all the updates after SP2.

But you just wait on a confirmation from one of the more smarter guys here ;)

Confirmed =)

Same will go for SP3 when it comes out. All SP2 updates will be deleted eventually and AP will only maintain post SP3

I got a copy of Autopatcher off a friend who downloaded the latest updates and installed them. I ran APUP but it downloads patches that have already been installed. Is this right? Is it downloading all patches post SP2 or should it be downloading patches that aren't present on my PC? As I said, right now it doesn't seem to be taking into account what has been installed already and is downloading some patches again and for all I know not downloading others.

APUP will download all patches since SP2. When you run Autopatcher.exe, this will determine which updates you need to install/already installed - Blue = already installed on your computer.

You mentioned that it wasn't downloading some updates. This could be because they are already present in your AP folder. Run Autopatcher.exe to see if they are there or not. Let me know if any are missing.

I meant to say "for all i know". What you're saying it doesn't matter if I've installed the latest patches, APUP will still download them again and Autopatcher will tell me if they are already installed? That appears to be what's happening as I was watching the APUP download process and it was downloading them again. Does that mean that with a future release, I'll have to download all the patches again in order to install the 4 or 5 new ones?

As long as you run APUP from the same directory as the last time you ran it, it should only download updates that have not been downloaded previously.

So seeing as I got the current updates from another PC, I'll have to download them again to get the latest ones? Does this also mean that you need to keep all the updates you've downloaded on your hard drive so that they are not downloaded again or just one of the files created by APUP? If all the downloaded updates need to be retained, that would be a great deal of space wasted.

This is how AutoPatcher Updater presently works. Choosing your updates and downloading only the updates that you want is currenlty being looked at as we speak.

Now that SP3 is available, is there any way to have Autopatcher only download the post-SP3 stuff? If will make for a significantly smaller amount of space taken up.

Thanks!

Once SP3 is offically distributed via Windows Update, then all the other updates will be removed.

Now worries, it will be soon

29 April - worldwide release, so those in Australia, New Zealand, and other Pacific islands will go first. <_<

Hopefully, by the time the U.S. reaches 0001 hours on 29 April the rest of the world will have not crashed the servers.

They usually release sometime in the afternoon US Pacific time, if I remember correctly.
