vista_x64 script has been updated. it has the following changes:
# 13/03/2009: -KB958655v1; -KB958655_2k8; -KB905866; -MSXML4SP2; ~KB890830; ~KB905866 (cristiano)
# 15/03/2009: +KB958655-v2; +KB958690 (cristiano)

despite mister "i did updates for msxml4 SP3" above, could be an nice idea think if that updates fits for x64 systems. so far i know, ms has released only the x86 version for that one. i don't run an x64 system, but i us to read the ms bulletins and there's no mention on those that msxml4 is also for x64 systems. for those that wish to check that info, please take a look in here and yours will see that currently, the only one version that there is fits only for x32 systems. also i do not wish to damage anyone systems and i really care about what i do, msxml4 sp3 isn't included for now. also, could be an nice idea read the march 2009 bulletin and realize that in that bulletin, the only one update for vista_x64 is KB958690 and that is included, also a few of other replacements listed above.

i only will hold this script until someone that is willing to learn about how do things properly and, above all, someone that is able and is willing to read the documentation for holding an script we provided join the team.

also, i do know that there's an msxml6 for x64 systems. i will do some research about and then that update may be included. in meantime, if someone know about some update that is missing, please reply.

Ok, let me try and answer this once and for all. (Actually I've already stated most of the following about a week ago, but nobody seems to be reading the Forums any more, before posting):-

msxml4 (XML Core Services, Version 4.0) is:
  • obsolete (it was made obsolete six years ago);
  • available for 32-bit only;
  • NOT recommended by Microsoft to be installed;
  • available only to support legacy (out-of-date) third-party software.
sp3 is a final service pack before Microsoft stop XML4.0 support completely

Microsoft said:

Approximately nine years ago, MSXML4.0 was released to the web. MSXML4.0 was superseded by MSXML6.0 six+ years ago and is only intended to support legacy applications. After MSXML4.0 SP3, there are no future service packs planned. Also, please note that SP2 support will end in November 2009.

Both Windows XP SP3 and Vista SP1 include XML6.0 IN-THE-BOX.

Summary:
  • Don't install XML4.0, unless you have some really, really out-of-date software that needs it;
  • Don't try installing XML6.0 because it is already part of Windows XP and Vista;
  • Do install the Security Update for XML6.0.

ok, msxml 4 sp3 was added into vista_x64 release. please, follow the instructions given by James and please, don't make your system run in compatibility mode running and update for an x32 system in a x64 system

just an head's up: i didn't forgot this one. KB960225 is in the current script as v1 and that is right

but KB948881, KB937286 and KB928439 aren't in the current script. i believe that i found the reason for that:

KB948881 is Security Update for ActiveX Killbits, dated from 4/8/2008. this one isn't at the script. but KB960715 is, as v1. the description for this one says Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits and is dated from 2/10/2009. an cumulative update us to superseed all the other ones to the same thing. yes, i know that ms didn't say that KB948881 was replaced, but is seems obvious.

KB937286 has the following description: "Install this update to copy a local version of key help topics available in the “Online Help” feature of Windows Vista". this one has about 24.1 MB and given the nature of the update, it isn't critical nor non-critical. it is an component update. of course, it can be added, but it will increase the size of the script by 24.1 MB basically for nothing. please, tell me: do yours think that this is required? if is, no problem, this can be added, but the download size will increase something...

KB928439 is kinda tricky. if my memory doesn't fail to me and the module that i have for windows xp is with the right date, i bet that this one had an update dated from 20080623, but the one that is at ms download center is from 1/30/2007. and, at least for windows xp, this one is at v5 (KB926140. probably for KB926139 be the same). the one that is online for vista x64 is v1. also, this one has an trick that isn't know by everyone: this one has another name for foreign languages. for english, this one is KB928439 but for everybody else is KB926140. of course, the english version for this one shall works in any language, but there's another issue: an v2 of this one will not install over v1 and you will have to manually install v1 first. probably WU is downloading the new version for this one, but i can't reach any other version for this script that isn't at ms download center, because i don't run an x64 system. i gladly can add this one, but i need to be sure that it is in deed the latest version and, if the windows xp version had an revision, i could bet that there's an revision for all other systems too. can someone that is running an x64 system get the download log for windows update for this one, to be sure that will be added the latest version in deed for this one?

thanks in advance

ms just added 1 update for IE8 for vista x64, so if anyone uses it here it is:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...3d7fd3c7561.msu

this is download link from ms update, i can't find it on download center

ie 8 and his updates will be added to the script only when this one is into the remain english scripts. until that, no ie8. also, for an update be included, some infos about the update must be public. this isn't the case of kb969058 until the present time.

KB968220

KB928439 is missing because the one that is online at microsoft download center isn't the latest version. they just have forgot to update that item. in order to get the proper download link for this one, i need the windowsupdate.log that is located at %windir%. since i don't run any x64 system, i don't have that link and i can't add the latest version for this one. if i add the one that is at ms download center will be useless, because wu knows that there's an new version and will download that version. and will fail to install, because in order to install this one, you will have to remove the old one first

KB960225: i'm doing this module right now

> KB948881/KB960715: this isn't the first time that wu is wrong. if you run wu in any language but english, you will see 2 language packs for the .net: 1 fails to install because it knows that it's obsolete and another one that doesn't have any kind of check and installs anyway (and install some obsolete files). please pal, just think: why should an cumulative update that is newer than an single update that is far older than the cumulative one be required? and that is just an sample. there's a dozen more.

> IE8 Updates
ie8 updates will not be added until ie8 be on that release and, for the main releases, this one will not be in the script for some time. yours may not run any online banking, but most of the ones that are running ie8 are unable to do that due ie8. also, this one is having several issues with websites, including wu. most of the issues that those guys are having is because they are disabling the compatibility mode, but most of the people will also do that. until the main issues with this one be solved, ie8 will stay out. even for the scripts that already have this one, ie8 is just one more, because ie7 is still there

that probably will be an good thing. most of those updates will be pure garbage then. and, by the way: the RC version is online at this link. will be an good thing have an full list of the replaced updates when this one arrive. but until an RC becomes final version, a lot of things may happen

for this month, vista x64 have those updates:

KB952004
KB960803
KB963027
KB959426
KB956572 replaces KB956841

and, of course, malicious software removal tool. i didn't had the proper time to fully check the xp scripts, except the one in my own language, but i believe that i will have the vista x64 ready tomorrow. i believe that ie8 will be added in 7 days or so, but ie7 will not be removed for some time, due the issues that ie8 have with banks and other important things

[]s

edit: i already have all the updates downloaded. my IC was down most of this night, so i was unable to do anything. i will start to work tomorrow due this issue. someone please say thanks to BRT for me
