ok here's what i usually do on a clean pc.

1. install OS and drivers.
2. install office 2003 (custom install, exclude outlook & infopath) and manual update it to sp3
3. run apup
4. run autopatcher
5. restart pc

now after that part, i rerun AP to try checking back on all modules listed and i noticed everytime that it seems not all office update modules were installed by AP.
i know i do a custom install for office, so i can understand some modules may not be installed at all.
but here's what im confused: for example, i'd always checked everything under Publisher during office install, but still AP showed black text over some Publisher updates. same problem for Word.

could it be that some Office 2003 updates contained in AP apply only for sp2, therefore ignored when sp3 is detected?
please enlighten me on this.

Hey there.

This is what I'll need to look into this. First off, could you tell me what updates are being marked as not being installed? Plus you said that you custom install everything, which I"m assuming the file detections are off because of this. Where are you installing your office products?

After reading the above and knowing I've commented before on AutoPatcher and Office the following is what I just finished as a test:

Ran APUP to verify updates/patches/fixes/etc are updated as of today 12 April 2008 1400 hours Pacific DST.

Ran Microsfoft Update > Custom: No updates listed as missing/required on system - WinXP Pro w/SP2 and ALL updates or Office 2003 w/SP3

Ran Office Update: Required Updates - No updates: "Your Office products are up-to-date"

Started AutoPatcher:
Microsoft Windows - Critical Updates: None (all blue)

Microsoft Windows - Recommended updates: Group Policy Preference Client Side Extension for Windows XP (KB943729) - only one in black - put check mark in box

Microsoft Windows - Updated Components: Windows Defender v1.1.1593.21; Internet Explorer 7 for WinXP; Windows PowerShell 1.0 for WinXP SP2 (KB926139); and Windows Desktop Search 3.01 for WinXP (KB917013) all in black - not selected, items not wanted on system.

Microsft Windows Genuine Advantage - None (both blue)

Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) - One black, one blue: Item description is the same for both, selected the one listed in black, check mark in box.

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack 2007 - Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1 is black - selected with check mark; Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System )KB947801) is blue.

Microsoft Office 2003 - all items blue except for: Update for Outlook 2003 (KB943649), item selected with check mark in box.

Microsoft Office 2003 Viewers - one item, blue.

Microsoft Office Addons -
Access Addons - one - blue.
Agent 2.0 Characters and Utilities - all blue.
Excel Addons - MSN Money Stock Quotes is blue; three others black - selected.
Outlook Addons - Personal Folders Backup for Outlook is blue; four others black - selected.
PowerPoint Addons - all blue.
Visio Addons - one - blue.
Word Addons - all blue.
Desktop Language Settings Addon - black - not selected, not needed.
Office Update Runtime - black - selected.
Live Meeting Add-in Pack - black - selected.
Microsoft Captions Language Interface Pack (CLIP) - black - not selected, not needed.
Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 - black - selected.

Windows Addons -
Microsoft PowerToys for WinXP - all blue
Tweakui - Tweakui 2.10 - black - not selected because - see next
Tweakui Control Panel Shortcut - blue - Tweakui IS installed as a PowerToys download; not from within AutoPatcher. AutoPatcher fails to identify because?
BLUE items: DirectX 9.0c Control Panel; Internet Explorer Spellcheck Tool v2.5.1; Microsoft Silverlight; Macromedia (Adobe) Flash Player 9.0.124.0 for I.E.; Macromedia (Adobe) Shockwave Palyer 11.0.0.429.
Black items: not selected, not needed, not listed.
Registry Tweaks - not listed here.

Ran AutoPatcher with items selected as indicated above; system rebooted upon completion; started AutoPatcher - none of the items selected above are shown in blue - all are still black. So, what is the problem with AutoPatcher?

Also, I should mention that this was probably the tenth time I opted to let AutoPatcher try to update most of the above listed (black) items.

Download the XP pack again. Group Policy Preference update should be working now. Seems like MS has two versions out there which Microsoft Update is pushing out a newer version compared to the one located at download.microsoft.com.

Now off to the rest...

P.S - You mentioned that you have two versions of OGA. It sounds like I missed a deletion. Could you tell me what two folders and files you have under autopatcher:\oga\

Go ahead and download all the packs which I've made quite a few detection updates. I know that there still will be some missing. Let me know.

P.S. - TweakUI is going to be broken for awhile. I might need to create manual instructions for this one.

Today, 13 April per request/instructions at AutoPatcher forum I ran APUP, downloads completed, AutoPatcher started.

Microsoft Windows - Recommended updates: none (all blue) - item above resolved.

Microsoft Windows - Updated Components: new item - XMLLite for Windows XP (KB915865 v11) - black - selected.
Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage: no change, both blue.

Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) - same, one black, one blue. Navigated to \AutoPatcher\modules\oga and found folder \offaddons_oga with two files: InstOGAV_enu.inf and OGACheckControl.dll

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack 2007 - same as above.

Microsoft Office 2003 - none (all blue) - item above resolved.

Microsoft Office 2003 Viewers - no change, one blue.

Microsoft Office Addons - only changes from above will be listed.
Office Update Runtime - now blue - item above resolved.

Windows Addons - no changes from above.

Again - same black items as above selected, AutoPatcher did its thing, system rebooted, AutoPatcher started.

Microsoft Windows - Updated Components: XMLLite for Windows now blue.
All other items as above - no change from black to blue.

So, there are still issues.

- Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage (OGA): Actually, what I need are the names of the two modules located in AutoPatcher\modules\oga. The two that end with an .apm

- Microsoft Office 2003 Viewers and Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack 2007 - Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1: This doesn't make sense why it's not being detected. The default installation location is program files\Microsoft Office\Office12 which the main executable is MOC.exe with a version of 12.0.4518.1014. After MOC SP1 is installed, you should then have a MOC.exe version of 12.0.6211.1000. Could you check the version of this file that you have installed on your system?

- To troubleshoot the Office Extra Packs, you will need to verify the verions that are installed on your setup. THis is what you should have
- Live Meeting Add-in Pack - Location: \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Live Meeting 7\Addins\LMCAPI.exe Version: 7.5.3819.0
- Excel Addons - Can you please tell me the names of the modules that are not installing/showing as detected
- Outlook Addons - Again, can you please tell me the names of the modules that are haveing issues

again, first off, i have all items under access, excel, powerpoint, publisher and word installed under custom install.
only outlook and infopath were not included. i didnt install frontpage.

anyways, as what you've requested..

here is a complete list of all KB modules, under office 2003, that are still displayed in black, at the time of this post:

office add-ons, fortunately, are all in blue. so i guess no problem there..

machines i usually install them on are using XPSP2..
last APUP update script i have, right now, is dated april 12, 2008..

i got the office2003 sp3 update back in july 2007.. and i dont know if this is the first or second version..

another thing, i know this may be an off-topic, but would AP (the latest version) still work if i upgrade to XPSP3 RC2?

@Stomptheyard - I'm glade that my work on the office pack corrected your detection errors

You mentioned that you custom install your Office setup. Can you tell me where you decided to install Office on your computer? I'm assuming they are not located in your Program Files directory?

P.S The answer to SP3 is yes, we should be fully compatable with SP3 which I've created detection tags for SP3 since the RCs

I would assume that the detection failed because of the location I use/selected - could be a future issue as others could select Custom during the install routine.

I sure did not want to screw up your detection routines - hope this does not add to your woes.

No worries. This just means I need to step up on the registry detection settings which might be a toughie. I new something like this would eventually come up but in the end, this makes for a better AutoPatcher.

I guess I really should have mentioned that the Custom install of Office 2003 resulted in the install location being \Program Files\Office - not \Office11 as might be expected.

Hope this doews not screw things up even more for your detection routi ne.

I wanted to test the Live Meeting Add-on Pack detection. Could you download the Office Pack again and tell me if it's being detected now?

Another problem solved.

Question though; if I change the location from where it is to my preferred: \Program Files\Office\Live Meeting 7 will it still be detected correctly?

How 'bout the OGA problem - above? Should be an easy fix - one of them must be wrong.

With the detection I added for Live Meeting, it shouldn't matter where you install it.

I added three more updates, two for outlook and one for the MOC initial install, plus I deleted the wrong OGA.

I'll have the rest hopefully completed by tomorrow

by the way, i almost forgot to mention.. somehow i have a feeling this matters, i normally delete the office installation cache right after putting everything in.

my office installer is stored in an external hdd which is only plugged in during maintenance and troubleshooting.
so during program maintenance, i just run the office setup.exe installer file from this hdd, rather than use the modify button from the add-remove programs page..

gee thanks about the xpsp3 compatibility..
but ive read recently that the final version is said to be released sometime within the 1st half of this year. my plan really is to do a clean (re)install rather than an update, so i guess i should wait for the sp3 final then.
