APUP does not download Service Packs. Is this correct?

Forgive me if this topic is too old to revive but I figured it would be best to go for a response to an already existing topic rather than post a new one. I simply wished to know, being 100% new to this process or auto.p in general, I wished to know, if it updates/downloads everything for you except service packs (of which I was also curious as to why they do not release these with the updates.) how would one go about using auto.p before service packs 1, 2 & 3 are installed? For example. literally at this moment my new HDD is being formatted and ready to have my full win xp pro. installed onto it, now, how would I go about this process? Thanks for any and all help. I am simply new to this and have read the f.a.q but I was seeking more in depth responses, etc.

Hi Big Boss and welcome...

What's included in the release - mostly all the important security / component updates. The extras release has a few more
items. Most people compare AutoPatcher with WU/MU to see what may be missing, if it is important we try to add it - look
at the Hotfix Depot to get an idea - Windows XP SP3 x86 Hotfix Depot

Note: I guess the Hotfix Depot details are being updated so the page is rather bland at the moment.

AutoPatcher updates a system with the given service pack in place - meaning - the service pack is a requirement and
not an included update in the release.

They (service packs) are not included mostly due to the size. APUP wont resume a broken download (it restarts at the beginning)
so unless you have a very fast connection it may be impossible to complete the download due to an error in the connection, a
disconnect on a dialup connection etc.

So I will leave it at - install your OS - install the latest service pack - download the AutoPatcher release for your given OS
and service pack level ie: Windows XP SP3 x86.

Service Pack 3 For XP (x86) Network Installation Package

Just in case you are unsure of how to use APUP.
How To Download/Run APUP

A word of Caution: This is my opinion - when updating a fresh OS install...
When using AutoPatcher to update your system - Don't check everything for installation all at the same time - your asking for trouble.
Be logical - meaning - install important components first, preferably one at a time (remember I said this is my opinion - others disagree)
IE7 or IE8 first - reboot, then .Net Framework (a separate release package) - reboot... and so on. The point being, you want to know the
updates were installed properly before you move ahead - also some updates have issues (require IE) unless the proper version of IE is
installed. Ultimatley it is your choice.
