> Any halfway competent programmer
easy to say, boy. where are you when the project started? someone, that you call of "halfway competent programmer" was doing a thing to benefit a lot of people that he even know, for free. besides, there's server costs. do you see many pop-ups over here? so, do you thing that the issues regarding all this project is for free? think: any of us need do this? we are paid for that? do you really think that we like when someone register just to complain about something that he doesn't know half of the history?
> they are not public-friendly
do you think that AP is aimed to the final user that can't go to WU due issues regarding an pirated version of Windows? you are wrong. the aim of AP is those that have to update hundreds of machines. those kind of people us to know click in a link, select the desired version and download it. besides, this whole thing is completely pointless. we just add an module to java to make your job easy, not ours. see, we can't download java from sun website. they have a lot of issues regarding even the country where you try download something from them
> Microsoft does this; they make certain things available on TechNet and so forth for a while, and after it seems stable, they put it on Windows Update
oh, yes. i suppose that all those KBs regarding issues of WMP9, 10, 11, that never arrived at WU are just "not stable enought". do you really don't know the difference bettwen an update that you need ask for and another one that is public, isn't?
> You're confusing the proverbial apples and oranges again. Microsoft releases security patches and other critical updates with proactive announcements
sorry, but you are. you even know that MS released a brand new build of MSIE7 a couple of months ago, isn't? and, by the way: that wasn't an "security patch" or an "critical update". you may very well be running that first version right now and even know that, because you can update that old version too
> You seem to be arguing in favor of retuning to manual procedures
you are right. we whole thing about java is:
- isn't needed;
- isn't windows security related;
- has an manual download
i think that we should remove that at once and never bother again about it. shall we do it now to stop this sort of complain? will be a lot easier to you. after all, you will manually download the version that you want, create the module exactally like you want and even more: you will not bother again with us doing a thing to make your job easier
> 1. Have an option to uninstall old versions
that you can't do, if you think about. really, you have read the part about "invoke specific versions of Sun Java" to run? do you know that by removing the old versions from a system you will prevent that a lot of people of run some sort of version that invokes an specific version of Sun Java? really, when you talk about, you think just about YOU and not about a lot of other people. wanna try? remove all previews versions of sun java, install the latest one and try run this:
http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/PessoaFi...iplataforma.htm
or this:
http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/PessoaFi...iplataforma.htm
better: try run this software under vista and with the latest version of Sun java. the latest time that i've checked, it wasn't working with the latest version of java. so, you need have an obsolete version in your system in order to run it. but don't worry. is just an software to pay taxes. but who need pay taxes anyway? and, by the way: this one is just an sample
> calling a third-party program
that doesn't remove obsolete modules, etc, etc, etc. to that, i suppose that you run APUP, isn't?
