Hi, does anyone know whether sp3 will be released today and if it's available as a download?

AFAIK, today it'll be released on technet, MSDN, Connect etc., but will be available for download to everyone on the 29th.

The bigger question is, what happens if you run AutoPatcher on a system already loaded with SP3? Does it work? Does it copy files it shouldn't? Has anyone tried? Did the author test AutoPatcher with the RCs of SP3? If not, why? :) I'm so full of questions!

Yes you are you =-P

AP is 100 percent SP3 proof. When you install SP3 on your system, all SP2 only updates won't show.

Tnx M2Ys4U, you seem to be right (had found different dates)

Over here, I can dl something (WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe) from the US mirror. The question is if it's the real deal...

Warning(for a better term) when it comes to SP3. In some tests I have ran after a fresh install of a slipstreamed SP3 CD, both to a XP Gold(SP0) and SP2 versions, IE does not show up in Windows or Microsoft Update as a Critical update. The info I am getting is that at this time WU/MU does not check for anything above SP2 level, at least in regards to IE. WMP 11 does show up in the Recommend category. I used a freshly updated copy of AutoPatcher(APUP) to install IE7 only. After reboot no IE7 Critical Updates showed up in WU/MU. I reran AP again and no critical updates showed up there either. It looks as if once IE7 is installed it is installed with all critical updates at once. I'm not sure that to be the case however one poster on the RyanVM forums suggested that SP3 installed all the critical updates for IE7 but not IE7 itself. This is still in the air as to what is happening.

For WMP11, that shows up as a Recommended install, I installed that through WU/MY. No reboot required and a refresh of WU/MU showed a new critical updates required, KB941569 A security update and media format runtime 9.5 and 11. That update was showing up in the AP Critical Updates but was not showing up in WU/MU until after WMP 11 install.

The concern for now is all the IE 7 updates that are NOT showing up on WU/MU. And unsure about AP and the IE7 updates.

Same concerns here, but I reckoned it will just be dealth with after the public release on April 29th.

For now I know that there are 15 updates for WMP11, and 1 cumulative update for IE7.
The problem is I dont know yet if they will apply properly since they are/were designed for SP2. I will have time to try that after Christmas holidays.
So it would be good to get some feedback from you guys, who allready have SP3 integrated install.

It would be cool to know if any of the updates are applyable to clean SP3 RTM.

Also does anyone know if Microsfoft decided on inserting KB888111 HDAudio drivers into SP3, or do we still have to integrate them into installation?
There is repack of that hotfix by RyanVM but original is better.

Not sure exactly on how it is possible to integrate hotfixes and updates for IE7, without IE7 integrated into installation itself...sounds bizzare.

Can someone tell me where to find whitepapers on what exactly is in SP3 ?

Not exactly, but it led me to registering on technet, so I will try to find out there firsthand.

Tanx.

IF you are connected to the internet when you install IE7, you will be prompted for IE7 to download its own updates before it installs. If you agree, the IE7 you end up with will be fully patched, at least with critical updates....not certain about recommended.

Is there a reason for delaying an APUP release that will let us only download post SP3 fixes? SP3 is in the wild....we need APUP that can handle it!

Calm down MacGyvr =) Patients is a virtue

Plus this details a lot of work since XP modules affect modules for other releases. Right now I'm updating these other modules so that they aren't affected. Once SP3 is released to MS Update, AP will be ready.

Actually it hasn't been added to WU yet. It's being delayed due to a conflict with Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Until filtering is in placed, it's not on WU.
