Hi,

For example,

I had downloaded and installed all the updates from Autopatcher already keeping the needed extracted folders on my desktop.

My question is, suppose I have to reinstall XP SP2, how can I make the Autopatcher ONLY to install the updates WITHOUT having to RE-DOWNLOAD or FETCH for updates from Microsoft's website???

How can I avoid the fetching part???

Now, I see a folder called MODULES and inside of this has many INSTALLATION files of updates....
Now, do I have to burn this folder onto a CD to ONLY install, and having to avoid the Fetching of Updates part of Autopatcher if I have to reinstall XP ???

Thanks in advance.

Basically you will want to burn all the files and folders where Autopatcher.exe and APUP.exe are located. Then you can run AutoPatcher off the memory stick or CD/DVD.

Quick note - I'm still working on a guide that will explain how to do all of this =)

Thanks for the quick response.

Now, please explain while Im still not clear on what to do and I have to get this resolved or added onto the CD soon.

Now, for nextime, after I extract everything from the ZIP file from what I downloaded off the Autpatcher webpage, it extractes it onto my Desktop, (which I chose to do so)....
Right after that.....what folders or files are needed to be burnt on the CD so I dont have to wait for Autopatcher to RE-FETCH the files from Microsoft???

I only need to install which takes lesser time than wait for it to download again for the updates.

Please post the exact steps on how to do this after extracting the ZIP file contents onto the desktop
Theres also a exe file called APUP.EXE...Is this the only file that needs to be burned on CD???

When I first started APUP.EXE, there was no files named Autopatcher.EXE, it was created during when I ran APUP.EXE.....Please explain this more in detail.

The only files were extracted (as I tried again) were the following:

APUP_BIN
APUP.EXE

AND IN THE APUP.BIN folder, theres no Autopatcher.EXE file...
It only gets created when I run APUP.exe....

Please explain on what should be burned.

I do not understand??

So you downloaded apup.exe, you run apup.exe( you have to tick 3 boxes (default) )
That way you will download a lot of updates and autopatcher.exe

All those files and apup.exe and autopatcher.exe and...(read: the whole structure of apup) must be burned to a cd.
You copy the content of that cd to your not-updated-computer and you run autopatcher.exe again.

clear?

Ok. I will try my best to explain again.

Right now, I have all the security updates installed (from Autopatcher). Thats OK...

But my question is, which folders or files do I really need in order to ONLY intall the Updates and Patches that I already have onto a CD-R if I want to avoid waiting again for it to download or re-fetch the updates when I re-install Windows? (Just incase I have to)

The only files that I see right now are the following:

APUP_bin (Folder)
APUP.exe
Modules (Folder)
and some other folders or files...cant remember...

and...

Autopatcher.exe..(which was created when I ran APUP.EXE)

I need to know which ones put onto a CD in order for me to ONLY install and NOT wait again for the downloading part....which takes extra time...

Many thanks again.

Burn the entire CD but only run autopatcher.exe when installing things. APUP updates AutoPatcher, it does not update your Windows system.

Thanks.

So, when I ran the APUP.exe file, it added a bunch of folders and files while it was running like MODULES...and including Autopatcher.exe.

So, I have to burn all the files and folders that were created like I explained above?

Should I create mysefl a folder called Autopatcher and then put those files inside of that and burn it?
Thanks.

Thanks I got it...

One more question though slightly off topic...

What is this "JUNK" after I install these upates in C:\directory such as these folders below???
I deleted this if its not an issue...

B4578BDGDGDTGAHDHDHD (Various characters and numbers)
and inside are like sp2-named stuff and update.exe files.....

and..

#AutopatcherUpdate# or something like this...

These are folders....Is this oK to remove at all???

And also, I got several of the first folder mentioned....

B4578BDGDGDTGAHDHDHD - Sounds like a temp directory for Windows Installer - Should be deleted once a patch is installed. After a reboot and you still see this randomly created directory, go ahead and delete.

#AutopatcherUpdate# - This is a temp directory that is created on the root when you run AutoPatcher.exe, you should only be seeing this whenever you have AutoPatcher.exe running. If it's still there after closing AutoPatcher.exe, go ahead and delete.

There is no need to copy these folders onto a CD btw

I got everything on CD BTW...Thanks for explaining....(not the Temp files though)

So just to verfiy, whenever I see these folders AFTER running Autopatcher.exe, is it OK to delete them???

Thx.

Exactly. Technically though, they should automatically be deleting.

If they do not delete automatically, it will be OK to remove them manually??

And when these temp files are removed manually....the installed patches and updates wll be removed along with it or these have nothing to do with these "JUNK" temp folders?

- Okay to remove manually

- Removing the temp files won't hurt anything on your computer. Just make sure you reboot before you delete anything.
