TCP/IP connection Limitation

Guest_w11z_* 07 May 2008

As i m aware of windows xp and vista have a tcp/ip connection limit they only allow 8 half-open tcp/ip connections at the same time... Many reasons for this basically if you are a beginner in security precautions you might catch a worm from the web that will be used to send ping packets from your computer and DDos attack someone while you dont know about it... Which is an advantage if you have the limit security

to those of us expert in security we know how to avoid getting worms... and we need to have the TCP/IP connection gate open for our ###### to internet data...

This will make our downloads faster if we are using torrents and will make speed in general faster

I want to get the patch from a trusted source........
Can you please post one here or give us instructions on how to get one from a trusted source?

well, those half-open connections will autoclose in 15min. there's an kb about it, but i'm not sure if the link is still active: http://support.micro....com/kb/122920/

according to that, just go to run, cmd and type this:
net config server /autodisconnect:time_before_autodisconnect

where time_before_autodisconnect shall be set in minutes. there's an issue regarding this procedure and adjust server services by control panel: you will be unable to do that after that

so, by doing that, you will not hack anything, but it shall works too (but still keeping that limit of 10, just closing it faster)

xp-antispy has a built-in TCP/IP connection limit patcher, which appears to work just fine on XP SP3.
