So Autopatcher has decreed that no one can continue to receive support for Windows XP SP2 anymore, right?

Not even a legacy download? I wish I had known so I could have secured the updates for SP2 including April 2008. Lucky I have burned a CD with the March 2008 upates and lucky that I keep my own archive of updates relevant to my needs.

It is an understatement to say that SP3 is not an unconditional success. Would someone please comment on the future of SP2 which some, at least, will be obliged to persevere with.

If you search the Internet you will see that a lot of people have a lot of problems with SP3 for XP!
Therefore it may be a good idea to wait until, maybe, a version 2 of SP3 is out.
And therefore: Is it possible to have the pre-SP3 download list for April 2008?
Where? How?

My point is was that the Autopatcher team have been a tiny bit quick off the mark in dropping support for SP2. SP3 has only been available for a very short time. C'est la vie!

I don't think that SP3 should be sent back to the pavilion. The umpire's finger remains out of sight.

There is not going to be a version 2 of SP3. The best you can hope for are future patches/fixes/updates/etc - same as what happened to SP2.

M2Ys4U, not exactally. at this time, HP and others helped a lot with crashes, by changing things in his built in versions of windows xp. people choosing nlite to remove things that they don't know what it does too helped this thing. so far, the main issue is regarging machines with AMD processors and intelppm.sys. why this? simple: HP choosed an INTEL driver to run in all his machines, AMD or INTEL. and in AMD machines, it makes a lot of crashes with sp3. but there’s an workarround to that:
http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/arc...ing-xp-sp3.aspx

another fix: cut off your reseller recovery cd badly done, find an untouched source for installation and install all over again. or you can blame MS by an mess that your own reseller did

I have to agree that the AP team have jumped the gun here.

AP Should support the same service pack levels that Microsoft does.

Only when Microsoft ceases support of XP SP2 should AP cease support.

Same goes for Win 2003 SP1, IMHO, even though Win2003 SP2 has been out for over a year.

Did that ever occur: a second version of the same service pack which is actually already a sort of second version (or third version in this case) of the operating system?
I'm not that old so maybe it already has happened but it sounds silly :)
Except ofcourse not regarding the fact that sp3 already had been launched, pulled back and relaunched (slightly modified I suppose) You could see that as a sort of second version of SP3

Anyway, most of the people who uses AP are of the kind that will update their computer regularly and will install SP3.
Supporting a SP2 version would be a waste of time and energy: this isn't done by a company but just by a few people and I think it's in their freetime.
Isn't most of SP3 already included in SP2 and post-SP2 updates? So I'm not buying it that it caused so much problems... the few guys who had problems just know how to get those things in the media :)

I still think that the valuable Autopatcher group (and thanks a lot indeed for your work!) WOULD DO US A VERY GREAT SERVICE, if they would in the download list for Autopatcher also include: "Windows XP non-SP3"! What do you have to loose?

It should not only include updates up to the releae date of SP3, but also individual updates issued after that.

MAKE YOUR GREAT WORK STILL GREATER THROUGH INCLUDING THIS OPTION!!!

Thanks in advance

I have SP3 installed on my home computers and I haven't had any problems at all with it. At work, however, I am unable to install SP3 at this time due to corporate policy. There are many people in the same boat...they can't simply install whatever patches or service packs come out until some corporate "authority" has had a chance to fully test and approve such installations. In many organizations, this procedure can take weeks or even months to complete.

Additionally, there are many people who have XP running in a very stable manner with SP2...so until Microsoft discontinues support for SP2, why should these people be forced to switch to SP3?

I have always been very appreciative of AutoPatcher and of the group of people that created it and keep it updated. If the discontinuance of the XP SP2 list is a simple case of the AutoPatcher crew not having the time or resources to continue managing it, then I'm cool with that and I will happily go on my way and use Microsoft's resources to keep my SP2 systems patched and up to date. However, if the decision to discontinue support for SP2 was due to the thinking that nobody needs it anymore, I respectfully ask that someone reconsider that decision.

Having a choice between SP2 and SP3 would ensure maximum compatibility for all AutoPatcher XP users and it would make a lot of people (including me) very happy.

Thanks!

It should not only include updates up to the release date of SP3, but also individual updates issued after that. Supporting that option is no extra work, since the list is already established up to SP3 and new updates will anyway be added to the WinXP SP3 Autopatcher, and then they can also easily be added to the WinXP non-SP3 Autopatcher as well! Really no extra work!

Of course it is unlikely that there will be a version2 of SP3, but a similar thing did happen with the Rollup for Windows 2000, which had to be released anew in a version 2. In any case various new updates may have to appear which correct issues with SP3. So it may not be a bad idea to wait!

MAKE YOUR GREAT WORK STILL GREATER THROUGH INCLUDING THIS OPTION!!!

Why bother with support for SP2 - it's obsolete.

If 99% of users have had no trouble with SP3 then that is now the standard - those with problems should fix their systems and stop blaming the software.

Hey guys. This is what I'm going to do and why I'm going to do this.

I do agree that there should have been some prior warning about AP deleting SP2 superseded updates. For this reason, I'll go ahead and work on and bring back the SP2 for XP pack for AutoPatcher temporarily. On June 1st though, I'm going to remove it.

Please understand everybody, I have job just like you do. (hopefully <wink>) I already am managing thirteen AP lists which I'll probably be splitting up the Vista pack later for future server 2008 support. Maintaining two lists for the same updates is going to make troubleshooting and updating that much more difficult. If you disagree, then I'm sorry. I already put my time and a good portion of my personal life aside in order to constantly update and release these updates for AutoPatcher each month.

I'll shoot a post on the front page once it's up. <See XP SP3 thread "Give us pre-SP3 XP Autopatcher back!!!, Many problems with SP3" to discuss more on this. This thread is being closed>
