Will be nice if there was some kind of pause/resume feature to prevent you download various files all over when your internet crashed. Just got a bit upset in a way when i was 95% complete of downloading the sp1 for office when i lost my connection

The way it is set up now you will need to re-download the file that was being worked on during the failure, but any completed files will NOT be re-downloaded.

Even i came to the forum to request this feature. The APUP needs to be updated to add some basic and important features. Please add the Pause / Resume support. MS servers support it too.

Hi alsiladka

Please can you explain in more detail what you want. The feature that the OP (Shof) was talking about is already present in APUP, as Cyrus has said.

You must mean something different?

Also the the feature on servers (a.k.a. HTTP Accept-Ranges) is something different again.

The issue which Cyrus mentioned is that it wont download the previously downloaded file.
What we both are requesting is that, add Pausing feature.

So suppose i am download .Net 3.5 SP1 , more than 300MB, after downloading 150 MB, like the download managers, there should be an option to Pause the downloading, and then after completing my work online, i could resume the downloading after 150MB.

In the current setup, if i want to stop download, all i can do is cancel downloading, and then start all over again.

not all over again, just the last download. you will lost only the last one. at the next running, apup will check for the already downloaded and, if the md5 for those files match, apup will not download them again

Wov, cant believe am having to explain it thrice.
Please read the first post, what Shof has posted. Even after downloading 95% of a file, just because of a lost connection, he had to download it all over again.

This is the same point i made. I knoe that you can cancel the download in the middle, and then continue from the last download the next time. But not everybody has a broadband connection with speed limits in MBps. How difficutlt or complex is a simple Pause Resume button?
Even the most simple download managers have it.

If the point has still not been understood, you people are the developers then, i guess you understand better.

@alsiladka: every single time that we tried add pause/resume to each single download, the result is a problem with the md5 for the file. we are looking for a solution for that, but until that issue be fixed, the only one thing that i can grant to you is that you will not loose ALL your download, just the current one, that was what i said before. at the next run, apup will resume, but will forget about the last one and try again.

Fair enough, if it is a problem which is holding the feature bach, then it is acceptable.

But the download managers work this way, i hope you can also manage a way to do that :)

Till then, will be waiting.

yes. but unfortunely, none of us is a full time programmer. we play sometimes, we change a few things sometimes, but we don't have enough skills to fix that code at once. a few things are being done, day by day. yesterday, i've changed a little bit of the apup main screen, this morning i've changed it a little bit more and now it's looking like this:

it may change until the changes be enough to make it public and also it may take time, but a few things are being done, day by day and some help is always welcome. someone that knows how deal with download links like those for sun java also may help us a lot. so, if someone wishes help, just pm us

by the way: currently, apup code is written in VB6

My 2 cents :)

* The last 3 entries, Autopatcher for Office, add the language English after the hyphen. But in the language column, it says All. This is misleading, they can either be English, or All.

* Brazil and Netherlands are names of countries, Brazilian and Dutch would be the name of launguages.

> Brazil and Netherlands
yep, they are. but there's another issue: Portugal and Brazil have the same basic language: Portuguese. but despide the name, the language isn't the same and somethings means completely different things. ok, some people can say that UK and US english aren't the same, but basically, the words means the exact same thing in booth. so, the name for the releases should be Portuguese for Portugal and Brazilian Portuguese for Brazil. when i once told to erik that in Brazil the language detection was auto-selecting Portuguese (Portugal) in Brazil, he said that was because the word "Portuguese", so, we stripped off the word Portuguese from the release. i will look into the code to see if i can change it for Brazilian (Portuguese) instead, shat should allow put back the language name, but the last time that erik did it, it didn't work :(. by the way, brazilian is the people that born in Brazil. the language is still portuguese. Brazilian Portuguese, but still portuguese. i know that they are trying make all the portuguese languages be the same, but i really can't imagine say that a girl is pretty (in Portugal) in Brazil, since the same expression belongs to red light houses in here :P

> they can either be English, or All
if i'm not mistaken, only office 2007 works for all, but even for this version, there's specific updates. i really don't hope that someone add an "update for brazilian dictionary" in a release that will work basically in english countries. but for office 2003 and xp, you are right. they are english only. i don't know who did this, but someone once did the same misleading for the .net package. even the extras package isn't for all, since the proper translation for each module isn't in there

by the way: i've tried a dozen of downloader codes yesterday. all of them have the exact same issue that we have for apup, regarding sun java downloads :(

I am aware of, and am testing, solutions to some of these issues.

The names of the Office releases will be changed in the next few days: only 0ffice 2007 has global updates, Office XP and Office 2003 are language-specific.

I am new to this forum
I am also having similar difficulties. You said you do not lose all the files, but only the one that was broken. But will you please enlighten me where all these already down loaded files are being saved?

the files are downloaded only at apup folder/sub-folders. according to the update, the file is downloades under:
apup\modules\critical
apup\modules\noncritical
apup\modules\components

if the files aren't being downloaded, we may need the log in order to pinpoint the issue

Yhank you very much
Now I see them on my very dektop. Unfortunately, the internet connection once again failed me. The files are not complete, and therefore I cannot install them(I suppose that is the reason)

you can try run apup with /log and post the log in here. there's a couple of know issues that we may help to solve. in apup folder, you may have an file named "hit_here_to_generate_an_log_for_apup.cmd". this file is downloaded only when you choose update apup. of course, you may also create an shortcut to make apup generate that log too.
