Failed verification? Something wrong?

> the new autopatcher system would be monthly update based
in fact, autopatcher is now more like "on the fly" update, since we can update the script anytime. this means that if today an new update is out, we may add this update at once, and not wait until next month. also, we may update the script to remove obsolete files anytime. also there's an check into the script, you will not need download everything again if we change just one update. you will download again just those updates that you still doesn't have in autopatcher folder
> Is it right to assume Autopatcher will not attempt to download any Microsoft files or updates that require WGA verification?
no. autopatcher in deed download some files that will require wga verification when installing, like wmp11 (at least, the previews release. i'm still not sure about the new build that come out last week)
> Autopatcher doesn't/can't download WGA-requiring files
we added direct links to each update. you may very well download everything even if you are under linux. this doesn't mean that you will be able to install files that require validation in order to install. if and when ms does that, we will not do anything to bypass that
> if you select to download IE7 you cannot deselect the WGA checkbox anyway as the checkmark always pops back
since even ms doesn't ask for validation in order to install msie7, we have removed that pre req. but in fact, the previews builds of ie7 in deed was requiring validation in order to install. in order to validate your system, you need wga. at that time, at least

Maybe my assumption is wrong, and you guys are much cleverer than I realised ? :-)
One difference between AutoPatcher and RyanVM is that AutoPatcher includes Public Hotfixes, but RyanVM also includes Microsoft PSS (Product Support Services) hotfixes which are not "publicly" available (except now you can request them by email to MSFT PSS).
A PSS hotfix comes with NO support from MSFT, so if your computer crashes, you have only yourself (and RyanVM) to blame...

Hi everyone.
I had some time so I ran apup.exe v1.04 again using /log and /verbose. I got the verification error again, so for the record I am attaching a jpg of the dialogs and the (rather large) apup.log in the hope it will help James et al. The most confusing thing for me is that apup "appears" to go into limbo without any reassuring screen messages once the final download file starts downloading. ( I think at this point it is actually decompressing files in the background and isn't locked up at all :-) ). Also it is unclear when apup has actually completed because there is no "finished" message - of course I may have clicked "Exit" too early, but there was nothing happening on screen to tell me to wait. Apart from the "verification error" message box, the rest may just be cosmetic.
Here is my account of the run:
1. I ran v1.04 apup.exe /verbose /log from a cmd window in windows XP+SP3, selecting the English XP, addons, directx and donet modules into a clean empty folder (apart from apup.exe, apup_bin and apup.zip.
2. Appeared to download files without problems until....
3. Appeared to hang at 0K for apengine.rti. A click on title bar of dialog produced a "Not Responding" message in the title bar.
4. As I clicked on the Exit button I seemingly simultaneously obtained the second "verification error" message.
5. When I clicked on the "Continue" button to continue at my own risk there was a momentary flash of vb6run message box with progress bar.
6. The main dialog then appeared to update to indicate 3k of apengine.rti had downloaded but there was no finished message, I waited a few minutes but nothing appeared to be happening so I then clicked the "Exit" button.
This is the logfile.

I've had a look at the log-file, which is quite large (about 194 kilobytes). I assume that the screenshot was taken before APUP finished since it show the log-file as only 185 kiB.
From the log-file and your very helpful description of what you saw on-screen, it seems that what APUP is actually doing, and what APUP is reporting on-screen are not in sync.
Here's what happened according to the log-file:
1) APUP obtained the list of releases
2) You selected "the English XP, addons, directx and do[t]net modules" (apup and engine modules were also selected)
3) APUP downloads 6 files (one each for your selections)
4) APUP reads these files and builds a list of missing files to download. Because this is an empty folder that means all of them!
5) APUP starts downloading 148 files
6) 1/3 (one-third) through the queue a file fails to download properly
7) 2/3 (two-thirds) through the queue two more files fail to download properly
8) The rest of the files (both before and after) download successfully
9) Some of the files are .ZIP files which are then unzipped
At some point around about step 9 APUP either freezes (with 100% CPU usage) or crashes. At this moment, I do not know why.
Since I know what the failed downloads are (kb867460, kb933547 and kb907306) I would simply run APUP again. Same folder. Same selection.
Unless there is a second problem, it will perform step (4) as before, but step (5) should be much quicker as it will be only 3 files.

Hi kerby
Your log file shows that APUP downloaded only a few files.
APUP failed to download most of the queue.
(APUP tried to download 81 files in total, but only 12 were successfully downloaded)
To help me determine the cause of your problem, please let me have a little more information about your system:
You have selected the updates for Windows XP. Are you actually running Windows XP SP3?
Was this the first download to this folder or did you try to run APUP twice?
Do you normally have a reliable internet connection? (If you uploaded apup.log (127 kilobytes) to live-share without any problems, I suspect that your answer will be YES!)
Do you use any languages on your system, apart from English and the common European languages?
If so, what do you have set as the Language for non-Unicode programs? (Regional and Language Options, Advanced tab).

yes, i'm quite sure about that

yes, apart from english, i use simplified chinese
but does the language option have anything to do with the error? i had thought the reason maight be the server of APUP.

Thank you for the additional information.
The answer to this question is YES! APUP has a problem with all languages that use non-roman characters, including traditional or simplified chinese...
I did think, from the log-file, that you had a far-eastern language in use, but needed you to confirm this.
Please change the Language for non-Unicode programs to English. Any English including English (United States) and English (United Kingdom) will work. This may require you to reboot your computer.
Then run APUP again. Same folder. Same downloads selected
Secondly, please note that AutoPatcher will only supply updates for XP SP3, not SP2. If you have not installed SP3, you will need to do this yourself. APUP will not download or install the Service Pack -- only the updates for a computer with SP3 already installed.

Hello ankantan
Thank you for posting information from your log-file.
It seems there is a mistake in the information for KB938464. APUP will continue to show an error until this mistake is corrected.
If it is easier for you, you can post here:

I installed 3 updates through AP today.
KB954154 is reported by AP as installed (blue) but Automatic Updates says it's not.
KB938464 and KB890830 (v2.2) show as not installed both by AP and Windows.
Can you please check what is the problem?
Thanks!

well, i did an check on the modules. i've realize that KB938127 was beeing removed by sp3 conversions and was beeing deleted and downloaded again because of that and that the script was looking twice for KB938464, each one with his own md5. probably i was on the moon this month because did an check and i haven't seen this until today. also, i've realize that KB951072 wasn't installing in proper order. all those issues was fixed.
regarding KB954154, KB938464 and KB890830, i haven't seen nothing wrong regarding the file download, the detection routines nor the modules. but i did an change in those to force his download again (the module only), just to be sure, because in my system, those look also installed by the same modules that are online:

so, if the issues reported was regarding Brazil version, please run apup again, just to check if everything is ok. if possible, with this command line: apup.exe /log . this will save apup.log, that may help detect the issue
again, thanks by your reports and by your patience. really, my right arm looks better, but some movements that are needed in order to do an proper test in each new module are still making me some pain. the weather doesn't help either. in last weeks, we are having an cold rain. if someone already had some broken bone, already knows that this sort of things looks like an knife, hurting and making you don't move or at least do just the really needed moves to make the pain easy.
tomorrow, i will see if i can assemble again an test machine or at least restore an virtual machine to make deeper tests on the scripts, but if someone wish help, i say thanks in advance
edit: install test done. nothing wrong found. but some issues can be related to specific systems, so, if this issue keep happening, please say something about

Hi Eduard
In the log-file extract you have posted, APUP is downloading the files to enable you to use MU (Microsoft Update) instead of WU (Windows Update).
Of course, you have to select this in AutoPatcher to install it.
