Thinking my downloads were corrupt, I tried re-downloading the apup.zip file half a dozen times over a couple of days. Each time, though, the same thing happens: when I click on apup.exe, I immediately get a pop-up saying "Missing files" (IZArc extracts 'apup bin' and 'apup.exe' from apup.zip).
Any suggestions as to what I might try in order to successfully run apup.exe? I've tried extracting the zip folder into both a virgin directory and into my old AP folder from last year (in C:\Programs\AutoPatcher), and I've run the vbrun60sp6.exe file in the win9xnt folder - still get the same "Missing Files" message.
I'm running WinXP Home.
Thanks for any help!

You have to retain the directory structure of the files; this means that you should have in the folder where you downloaded the applications only one file (apup.exe) and a sub folder, whose name is "apup_bin", which containes the 5 remaining files (see also the pdf directions in the User Guide for managing autopatcher). In order to get that structure, you have to create a folder (i.e. APUP) for example on the desktop, right-hand click on the apup.zip downloaded set of files and select "extract to folder command". That procedure will maintain the original structure and clicking on apup.exe will work (no more missing files). Probably you opened WinZip, selected all the 6 zipped files and extracted them into a folder; this is not correct (for autopatcher) and results in the error pop-up.

Good Luck!

FYI: I just downloaded and tried to run the apup.exe program and it gives the error described above when run from a network drive. This happens either from a UNC share name (\\servername\sharename) or a drive letter mapped to a UNC share. Yes, the directory structure of the zip file was maintained.

My workaround was I had to run it from a local fixed disk.

I'm a little late reporting back here, but thank you, Eraldo, you were absolutely right. I've never been entirely certain/clear about how to handle zip files - in the past, it had seemed to suffice to open them with IZArc. AP is now installed and running just fine on my computer now. :)
