I get an error code telling me that I have an outdated RICHTX.OCX file and Autopatcher cannot run (error 0x174).
What I don't understand is a clean install of Windows 2000 with SP4 does not have this file installed at all and Autopatcher runs just fine. ???
Could someone explain what is going on??
Thanks,
Idiot

Yes
AutoPatcher comes with its own copy of RICHTX32.OCX (located in the [AutoPatcher]\bin\ folder) which it uses.
Installing other software may put another copy of RICHTX32.OCX in the system folder (usually C:\WINNT\system32)
If this is a different version, AutoPatcher will object.
AutoPatcher's version of RICHTX32.OCX is 6.1.97.82 (which you may also see as 6.01.9782)
Most common other version of RICHTX32.OCX I have seen is 6.0.88.4 (which you may also see as 6.00.8804)

It's been pointed out that my reply (above) is not very helpful to other people!
Here's the standard solution:-
If you get the 0x174 error + error message about outdated RICHTX32.OCX, it's because you have more than one copy of RICHTX32.OCX on the computer.
The outdated copy will be in the system folder (usually C:\WINNT\system32 on Windows 2000 C:\WINDOWS\system32 on Windows XP).
EITHER
1. Rename the copy in the system folder to something else;
OR
2. Copy RICHTX32.OCX from AutoPatcher's \bin folder to the system folder;
OR
3. Delete the copy in the system folder.
