I recently had to reformat and I've tried autopatching to service pack 2. I tried an older version on disc that i have (5.1 i think) and also downloaded the newer version. When i go through the steps everything works fine, but i go to the properties on my computer and its doesnt say i have the service pack. When i try to download apple quicktime it errors out saying i need to upgrade to at least sp2. I also tried to patch to sp3 off of the latest download link, and that hasnt worked either. I noticed im getting some of the updates, like the .net hotfixes and messenger etc but i guess im not getting the security updates entirely... I keep redoing the installs and the next time the same files are still black.

any help would be appreciated i really could use it :blink:

Hi christian.

I'm assuming you reinstalled Windows XP SP1 x86? If so, before using Autopatcher you need
to update your computer with at least XP SP2 before using Autopatcher. So....

First...

Get either "ServicePack 2" or "ServicePack 3" For Windows XP...And update your OS first.
If you plan on using Autopatcher for Windows XP know that on June 10th Autopatcher will
require Service Pack 3 and the XP SP2 release will be gone. Use only "Autopatcher for XP SP2"
if you installed SP2, and "Autopatcher for XP SP3" if you installed SP3.

SP2 For Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

SP3 For Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

Now...

If you have the appropriate Autopatcher release you should be able to update your OS. If your
not sure re download in a new, clean, and emtpy folder and start fresh to be safe.

XP SP3 -> you should check these boxes in the apup window

required -> autopatcher updater
required -> autopatcher engine
required -> autopatcher xp sp3 x86
optional -> dotnet addon pack
optional -> directx addon pack
optional -> extras addon pack

The only difference for a SP2 package is "uncheck" the (xp_sp3) box, and
"check" the (xp_sp2) box

IMPORTANT NOTE:
(Autopatcher for XP SP3) and (Autopatcher for XP SP2) need to be in their own,
separate folders, they don't play well together. It might be in your best interest
to get both a XP SP2 release and a separate XP SP3 release. You can't update
a SP2 release to SP3 and still maintain a usable XP SP2 release. So get "both"
if your not sure if SP3 is for you just yet.

Hope this helps a bit...

Mike
