Since you started with the 2007 version of AutoPatcher, you may have another problem.
What folder is apup.exe in?
What folder is autopatcher.exe in?
Can you please run apup again with the /log option and post the log file here?

Thank you for posting the log-file. Your problem is already known. There is a mistake in AutoPatcher's security information for Vista 64-bit.
Until this mistake is corrected, APUP will show the same error. Meanwhile, you can safely use AutoPatcher to install updates, but it will show "Unofficial" at the top of the screen.

Thank you for answering the questions I asked earlier. I know exactly what your error message means and will try to solve your problem with you.
Some of the advice you have been given in this thread may have not been completely correct, so you will need to unregister and remove certain files before we try again.
I will post some more detailed steps for you to take when I have some more time later today.

I really feel confidence when I get support from a product or in a forum.
I'll monitor the thread and I'm waiting for further instructions.

Starting from the end: the strange error message you are seeing means that APUP is unable to load a file it needs and so cannot connect
to the Internet. What should happen is this:
1) You start apup.exe
2) apup loads ctlwinsckdownloader (part of apup.exe)
3) ctlwinsckdownloader loads MSWINSCK.OCX (a VB6 file supplied with apup.exe)
4) MSWINSCK.OCX loads WSOCK32.dll (part of Vista)
5) WSOCK32.dll loads ws2_32.dll (part of Vista)
6) other Vista files are loaded and the Internet connection is made
In step 3) you need administrative privileges because MSWINSCK.OCX is an ActiveX control.
Preliminary steps:
1) Check that the files WSOCK32.dll and ws2_32.dll are present in the SYSTEM32 folder (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32) and that they
are the correct versions for Vista:
WSOCK32.dll (Windows Socket 32-Bit DLL) Version:6.00.6001.18000
ws2_32.dll (Windows Socket 2.0 32-Bit DLL) Version:6.00.6001.18000
2) Alternatively, confirm that Internet Explorer can access the Internet (since it uses the same Vista files)
I would be surprised if these files are missing. The version numbers I have given are for Vista SP1.
For APUP itself, I do not know what files you have in each folder, so it is best to remove the files from the system folder and start again. All of
the following is best done from a command prompt, run as Administrator.
1) Open a command prompt and change directory to the SYSTEM32 folder (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32)
2) if aamd532.dll exists, delete aamd532.dll
3) if MSCOMCTL.OCX exists, run regsvr32 /u MSCOMCTL.OCX to unregister it. Then delete MSCOMCTL.OCX
4) if MSWINSCK.OCX exists, run regsvr32 /u MSWINSCK.OCX to unregister it. Then delete MSWINSCK.OCX
5) change directory to the folder with apup.exe in it and run apup /log
To avoid any permissions/UAC issues it is best to run apup.exe as an Administrator, because it will always try to check, register and load
MSWINSCK.OCX
If you again see the same error message, I will need some more information to try and understand why some files are not loading. This is
best gathered with a program from Sysinternals (now owned by Microsoft) called Process Explorer
1. Open this link: Process Explorer in a new browser window.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the window and click "Download Process Explorer (1.6 MB)". Save it to the Desktop.
3. Right click and extract “ProcessExplorer.zip” to the Desktop.
4. Open the extracted folder of “ProcessExplorer”, double click “procexp.exe”.
5. Click Agree to run it.
6. Click View on the Tools menu, and select “Show Lower Pane”.
7. Click View on the Tools menu, click “Lower Pane View”, and select “DLLs” on the sub-menu that pops up.
8. Run apup.exe again.
9. Then highlight "apup.exe" in the Process Explorer main (Upper) pane.
10. Click File in the Tools menu, and then select “Save As…”.
11. Save "apup.exe.txt” to the Desktop.
12. Post the log in "apup.exe.txt” to this forum thread.
