Hey guys
I was thrilled when i found out that you added compatibility for server 2008
and after reading about deleting the modules folder etc i just redownloaded everything from scratch
in a clean folder after checking just about everything from apup
so i downloaded engine and update , xp sp3 , vista/server x86 and x64 , addons, directx, and office 2007 with addons
it all weighs about 1.5 gb but is well worth the time and bandwidth imo
as usual (it happens in every machine i've tested so far and they are a lot) apup.exe mentions a failed verification on first run
but in subsequent runs everything works ok, and it happens every time no matter if i download 1.5 gb or 1.5 kb
anyway , on first run it reported failed verification(s) but i ran it a couple times afterwards and it was all ok (sorry didn't keep a log)
then i ran autopatcher on a fully updated server 2008 x64 enu datacenter system and it reported as not installed:
1 critical : Root Certificates Update (May 2008)
about 10 recommended : sorry can't remember which ones, european fonts and web folders is all i can remembeer
components : windows update v7 and gp pref extensions
and 1 one update for office 07
none of them appeared on mu/wu when i checked earlier but i thought that autopatcher knows better (you've saved my a$$ many times)
all in all there were 18 updates that were found by autopatcher but not by mu , so i checked them and went ahead on installing them last night
all seemed to be ok, everything installed fine and after resetting i checked again with autopatcher and installed updates in control panel and they had indeed been installed
but here starts the havoc:
the machine took about three times longer to boot and when i finally logged in i thought to check mu for any updates left off
but there was no internet connectivity and very limited connectivity whatsoever
i was unable to ping the router (destination unreachable) or connect to the router interface, unable to connect to other machines on the lan (pinged ok but no network)
unable to connect to any site (ping timesout on name resolution and no browser resolves dns so it can't find an ip to ping)
tried with two different gigabit nics with every possible configuration, firewall on - off, static - dynamic ip
the network and machines are assigned static IPs and the dns servers IPs are entered manually in connection properties
every other machine on the network works ok but not this one
i've tried everything i could think off but you really are my last resort dudes
did not change any configuration on the machine, the network is private in network connections, IPs and DNS are ok but unable to connect
all i did was the update through autopatcher and nothing else
there's no system restore on server 08 to undo the changes , and right clicking an update on autopatcher does not allow mark for removal (greyed out)
all i can think off is to uninstall all the updates installed by autopatcher from installed updates menu
i remember a registry tweak in autopatcher xp that wrecked network coneectivity but there's no such tweak in vista/server, to undo to fix this
prior to autopatcher i had file services (windows search) installed and updated , no other server role and just 3 features that i did not change
i did not update windows search through autopatcher (had it already updated) or any other feature , in case you think that the index is being built hence the slowdown
the indexing is complete and up to date, no other service is running in the background that could explain the slagginess or the network cutoff (just the usual...)
so the situation right now is like this: the machines takes about 5 minutes to boot (compared to 1-1.5 minutes)
and it can not connect to anything ,other machines on the lan, router, internet, anything
if anyone could help it would be really appreciated, I'm in the dark here....
thanx in advancce and thanx for all your hard work
Server 2008 and Autopatcher teething problems?
