Reboot Hell

After downloading and installing all of the latest my computer is now in a stuck in a Reboot Hell, unable to reach my desktop. All it says is this when i turn it on:
Configure Updates: Stage 3 of 3
then Shutting down. Afterwhich, it will restart and go back to the same updating stage
I have tried safemode which dont work at all.
Is there anyway to get back to my desktop without doing a reinstall of vista and no longer running autopatcher since the lastest updates cause this hell
