Is this a "normal" run of Autopatcher?

Or is it running from RunOnceEx at first logon?

If so, is this (as before) setup by WPI at T-12 of the Windows install?

IE7 is not listed for install. Is it in your Answer file?

If it is, is ie7.log being created?

If so, please post ie7.log as well.

autopatcher.exe gets launched using WPI (Windows Post-Install Wizard) v6.5.1

WPI.hta is launched using RunOnceEx.cmd which is used in nlite v1.4.8 in the GuiRunOnce section of the presets file.

This in turn gets put in the GuiRunOnce of the WINNT.SIF file, so it gets run on first logon and not at T-12.

I just realized that the answer file does not exist! Doh!

I will try again with an actual answer file and will report back.

ie7.log does not exist on my system.

Thanks for the explanation and correction. I realised later that I was wrong about T-12, because that's when commandlines.txt gets parsed, not WPI is executed...

I've only briefly looked at your results (I''ll have more time tomorrow) but the AutoPatcher log file looks identical to before.

Preliminary thoughts:

1) Now you have an answer file, is it being found?

2) The path to your answerfile is given as "d:\WPI\\install\\apup_WinXP64\\apup_WinXP64.aaf"
which has "escaped" or double backslashes everywhere except for the first one. Shouldn't that first one be the same?

3) the DOTNET_PARENT problem will affect .NET -- it shouldn't affect IE7.

4) ie7.log will not exist until IE7 starts being installed. Because it still doesn't exist, that means there is nothing attempting to install it (yet)

I also tried autopatcher so that the log reads:

But I am getting the same behavior in both scenarios.

The answer file exists at that path.

Any other ideas?

I checked the two Autopatcher logs you have posted and they are identical, as I suspected in my last post.
That means that autopatcher.exe is not reading the answer file.

This is confirmed by the line in the log file:
"AutoPatcher was instructed to treat recommended modules as critical. The following list includes recommended modules."
because the /answerfile: option over-rides the /recommended option.

From this remote distance, I cannot determine why the answer file is not being read. So you will have to experiment with such things as:
1) Removing the drive - leaving only a path
2) Removing the path - putting the AAF file in the same folder as autopatcher.exe

I have very few ideas left, because I cannot see from here what is different about your system that makes your answer-file unreadable, but not for other people.

Please remove /report from the commandline.

Is your answer-file Read-Only?
Have you edited the answer-file yourself, or is it untouched after autopatcher.exe generated it?
Have you tried making a new answer-file?

The answer file is read only because it resides on the DVD drive.
Is that ok?

The answer file is generated from autopatcher.exe and unmodified.

I tried recreating the answer file with the current directory but it contains the same content.

When retrying apup.exe from scratch, it is behaving kind of weird on me (again). I noticed that the weird behavior when it starts to download kb925891 at about 65% of the way through with downloading the windows xp/2003 sp2 x64 update pack.
The progress bar, percentage, and speed always "flicker" with inaccuracy.
This coincides with "Run-time error '0'." and "Invalid download(s)" "One or more files failed verification. Would you like to continue at your own risk?" messages. Re-running apup.exe with the same selection in the existing "incomplete" directory will reproduce the same messages every time (it skips re-downloading the files).
In the past I would always try to re-download everything until I get a clean run\exit from apup.exe.
But now I can't seem to download the latest update pack to try this from scratch.
I tried apup from scratch with xp/2003 sp2 x64 update pack selected on windows xp x64 sp2 and on windows xp sp3 with the same results.

Any advice?

I'm glad that one is solved

I'll file that as a bug for Antonis to deal with.

That leaves several issues still to go.

1) The log file gives:

That means that the file __dotnet.apm is missing. (That's a double underscore "_" before the "d")
__dotnet.apm should be in the [AP]\modules\Components folder.

2) Several of your options are doing nothing
/report is an unknown option. That's why I asked for it to be removed.
/recommended does nothing if /answerfile is present. It just makes your log file bigger. (That's if /answerfile is working! HaHa)
/nolicense does nothing if /unattend is present

So instead of:

and get exactly the same result

3) If apup.exe is showing errors, the usual advice is to re-run apup.exe with the /log option and post apup.log here. (The log file is in the same folder as apup.exe, not like the log file for autopatcher.exe.)

4) Are you sure you mean kb925891? That's an Office 2007 update, not a windows update.
