AutoPatcher XP SP3 (x86) English Hotfix Depot

This topic will list all the required patches to bring a Windows XP SP3 (x86) system up to date. It will be used as AutoPatcher's hotfix archive, it could also serve as a reference list. Note: Service Pack 3 is a 'prerequisite' for the XP package to be of value, nearly all the updates will remain hidden on a system with less than service pack 3. If you need help finding SP3, see the following thread - SP3 Downloads. There are 2 flavors - the 'Network Installation Package' & 'CD Image File'.

Please post information on new Critical (or Recommended) patches here - 'Core' Windows XP SP3 (x86) components and updates. Issues with the XP SP3 script - 'failed', 'missing' files, 'Unofficial' status - error reports belong in the AutoPatcher for Windows XP SP3 (x86) forums. It may help to Search the threads or Start New Topic.

Questions or comments regarding additional components, patches, addons, plugins, etc are better posted in their own forum:

KB911280 is v2 (since June 2006).

Also, you seem to be missing these:
June Updates
July Updates
August Updates
September Updates
October Updates

Hehehehe wake up mate, Microsh*ts put a bloke on the program.

However its great to have the forums back and hopefully the team can sort out stuff better now.

by the way: MSIE7 has a new version. now, it doesn't validate winxp and also solve a lot of problems related to that in genuine MS software. those that already had issues with that crap in genuine Windows XP knows what i'm talking about.

there's KB943000 too, but this one isn't public, despide be needed in Brazil, due change in daylight save time.

Microsoft quitely updated .Net 3.0 with SP1 on their download site on the 16th:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1

Plus .Net 3.5 just came out: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

Personally I haven't played with any of them but this should be interesting

Please add an option to select which updates to download before adding .Net 3.5!!! I really don't need/want those 197Mb! Thanks!

Perhaps new .NET version (such as 3.5) can be in a list by themselves, but the updates to each version (which are usually small) can be included in the windows XP list. Although I have a huge pipe and no download cap, I admit 197 MB is a lot for some people.............

After playing with some virtual machines, it looks like .net 3.5 includes .net 2.0sp1, 3.0sp1 and 3.5. Should be safe to remove 3.0 and 3.0 sp1 from APUP

As a side note I installed net 3.5 in a clean install of X., Oddly enough, Mcrosoft Update offer's one additional update for .net 3.0: KB KB932471. If you try installing it, the update errors out everytime. Probably a fault Microsoft will soon realize and update once they start offering 3.5 via MU.

Hi,

Unfortunately the issues surrounding .NET are not straight-forward.

Much depends on the target audience for AP and if you are updating a new XP install or keeping an existing one updated, or ideally both.

To do the job correctly then all versions of .NET have to be included in AP as you don't know what state the target PC will be in before you start.

All versions of .NET from 1.0 to 3.5 might need to be included so that earlier versions present on any particular PC can be updated. This also means that all .NET hotfixes need to also be included.

On a new XP install you might be able to get away with just installing .NET Framework 1.1 and then install .NET Framework 3.5.

This should then give you .NET Framework 1.1, .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1, .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 and
.NET Framework 3.5.

For existing XP installs then all of the separate .NET installers. .NET Service Packs and Hotfixes *MUST* be included within AP so they can be updated and patched as necessary.

This was one area where the earlier releases of AP did cause issues as they used a modified .NET 1.1 SP1 installer which would not update existing installations. This required either manual updates or visiting Windows Update to update the XP install.

I hope this can now be corrected so AP works in all situations and will update all XP installations.

@PsiMoon314: I understand exactly what you are saying but I know for a fact that you can use dotnet 3.5 to update a computer that has any combination of dotnet 2 and 3 installed which includes all previous incremental patches. Dotnet 3.5 doesn't touch dotnet 1.1 but updates both 2.0 and 3.0 to sp1 no matter what patch state they are currently in.

Wow that is interesting news, (to me anyway), regarding .NET 3.5 and information which I was not aware of.

Is this documented by MS anywhere you know of?

I will test this myself to see what happens but if this really is the case then it's different from all of the previous versions of .NET and a welco, improvement.

@PsiMoon314: I agree since dotnet 1.1 only included incremental updates. I'm sure there is something better but this is what I have found:

Go to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5's download page and look at the "Brief Description." You will see: "and includes .NET Framework 2.0 service pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.0 service pack 1."

Then if you go to the download page for either Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 or Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1, look at the overview and you will find: "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0/3.0 Service Pack 1 provides cumulative roll-up updates for customer reported issues found after the release of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0/3.0."

So that just leaves the odd .NET 1.0 update(s) that I sometimes see on some PC's, generally older ones which have been updated to SP2 from SP0 or SP1.

I did post the download locations for these on the Neowin based forum ages ago but I have since lost them myself.

When I seem them again I will grab them and post them here for possible inclusion in AP.

@PsiMoon314 What posts and inclusion are you referring to? AP should already have .net 1.1 / .net 1.1 sp1 / and all incremental updates afterwards?

@PsiMoon314, .NET 1.0 could just be updated to .NET 1.1 and that sould take care of the problem.
