In any event on PC's with .NET 1.1 and later versions installed you do get updates for .NET 1.0 appearing in Windows Update.

Erik, at WU, every single of those updates are critical (except KB945007).

by the way: there's at least 3 "cumulative update for MSIE" in AP update list. some of those wasn't suppose to replace the old one?

off: this weekend i finally had some time free since some time ago and i've worked at AP BR script. i'ts missing now only md5 for install modules. the really painful thing (aka: dozens of updates md5, expected sizes, download locations etc) are all done now. so, in a few days it must be complete

What cumulative updates are you noticing on your AP? The only replacement for the cumulative this month was KB942615 which replaced KB939653. APUP deletes KB942615.

- I don't know myself why I placed 945007 in critical, I"ll have that fixed later

- The cumulative time zone update KB942763 originally replaced three others which were all optional previously. I can go ahead and place this into critical if that is what WU is showing.

I'll have the above changes implemented later on when I upload the Win 2K updates tonight

well, ages ago, blaze once told that KB928090 (IE7) wasn't suppose to be removed because it wasn't fully replaced by the next cumulative update. looking into english modules v3.3, that update isn't in there anymore. ms finally replaced right that one? i'm pretty sure that i've saw another update also "cumulative update for msie" when i was taking direct download links, but i didn't write the kb and i don't remember if there's another one

KB931125 isn't at AP script too. this one, i believe that be because a missing direct download link, right? i've also notice that are missing KB934238, but this one is for non-english and i don't found any direct download link for it too

about timezone, in deed, the last ones was optional in AP. but ms tagged KB942763 also critical this time. if i'm not mistaken, all previews versions of this one was listed also critical in WU too. personally, i don't see any reason for this kb don't be installed also critical, since every daylight save time windows mess with system clock and some services that requires trusted times doesn't work properly. but some other updates are listed also critical in WU too (like MSIE 7) and aren't listed in ap also critical

945007 - it isn't an critical update because it doesn't fix nothing really bad. it just fixes an annoying thing, but just that

KB931125, i didn't saw that one. i already had either. i'm not sure why i write that. i just notice that when i was writing the script to build the modules md5 checks (call me lazy if you wish, but i did that just in a few minutes due that). by the way, can you pm me how upload the script? it's missing just 1 final check: see if it works (and i will do that in something like 12h from now)

KB928090 - i even remember blaze words about this one. was something like "stupid, stupid ms", but that words are now in a locked forum at neowin. he said that ms set this one also replaced by the next one (that was true for IE6), but for IE7, they missed 1 component and because of that, that kb should be keeped. i really hope that not forever, but what kb really replaced this one due that issue?

really, really weird. hoping see an message about "fail to install", i've cheked that sp1 for msoffice 2k7 that was at WU. to my surprise, it said was instaled fine. checking at all my machine, i didn't found any trace of an msoffice folder (except for an almost empty folder at msshared). at add/remove, i haven't msoffice either. please, don't tell me that people that have tried msoffice 2k7 need download about 37mb due some sort of issue that this crap heave behind after removed. by the way: this update is set also critical

What order are the updates listed in AP? Date released?

The following critical update does not seem to appear in AP but is in modules/Critical:

The PC has a fresh install of XP Pro SP2. I ran AP and installed all critical updates.
WMP11 is not installed but this update applies to WMP10 and WMP9 as well.
WMP9 is what is currently installed on this PC.

This one is not in AP at all:

It applies to the version of Flash Player included in XP SP2.

@ FizzleFry - Your correct - AP lists and installs updates by the release date of the update. Oldest to Newest

KB923689 - This was replaced by KB941569 which AP includes

KB936782 - AP WinXP x86 doesn't include some updates for WMP 9 & 10 which I have been meaning to look into but is low on my priority list since AP is still missing alot of other updates. I'll have it up there eventually though =)

KB923789 - I believe this isn't included since all you have to do is to install the latest version of Flash Player which resolves this security issue. I'll look into the possibility of adding a module for this update not to display if the newest Flash is installed.

Actually I do have the latest Flash player installed but the original flash.ocx file (from SP2 install) was still in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\.

I installed both the IE and Firefox Flash players from AP.

When running AP on a freshly installed system should it be done in stages or can you choose components from all sections in one go?
ie, should you do critical updates then reboot and then do other compnents.

Think of AP just like Microsoft updates. You can install all of the updates at once. After a restart, make sure to run AP again since there are usually prereqs for some of the updates (Like IE7 or WMP 11)

Erik, that's the idea. only public releases are included in ap in order to be more stable. ok, some of non-public updates already has replaced public releases that ap don't have. so, if ap don't have those that are public, it should be included, even if those are already replaced by non-public fixes. there's even an kb about issues with opening new windows in msie 7 that may very well do an system crash.

after running clean install tests, i've notice that WU say that KB925720 is needed. in fact, this one was in previews versions of AP. issue: at Microsoft Download Center, the only one version that you can download claims that is from October 2006 and WU says that the newer version if from February 2007. an new version has arrived and isn't at MS Download Center, right? wrong. that file that you may download from MS download center has the exact same md5 for KB925720.CAT than the version that WU calls of Feb 2007. big deal, right? wrong. looking into registry, the build date is Wed Oct 04 07:40:05 2006, for booth versions. plus, if you install that version of October, this update is not showed also needed anymore.

so, i'm adding this one again.

i was almost forgetting: WU also claims also needed KB932471. if you download this one, it doesn't install. reason: this one is an update to .net 3 and apup has .net 3.5, that installs .net 3 sp1 that makes this kb obsolete. so, this one is just an mistake from WU

i've found an issue regarding .net 3.5. i'm having troubles with an laptop that doesn't shutdown after re-install and apply all updates. i've realized that is done due an driver of this notepad install some sort of component (d... Acer CrystalEye webcam 5.8.30.500-1.0 and his fake WHQL). so, instead install drivers and then update, i'm trying apply updates and then install the drivers. but there's an issue with .net 3.5 redist: it asks to download about 65MB in updates in order to install. i've taken shortcuts to install, yes, but this say me that .net 3.5 have some sort of pre-req, that shall be added into the apm file to prevent this. someone has some idea about? in my tests, after update all, it still shows also needed something about 12mb, that you just go online and the instalation goes fine without download nothing.

edit4: really, really serious debugging... we missed one update: KB941833. This update resolves reliability and application compatibility issues in Microsoft XML Core Service 4.0 Service Pack 2. (that AP has). so, i'm adding this one too. but this one has also prereq msxml4sp2. better saying: this one replaces msxml4 sp2

I suggest the following addition to Recommended Updates:

KB893357: Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) update for Windows XP

The most important feature of this update is that it enables "WPA2" and "WPA2-PSK" options in the Network Authentication list on the Association tab for the Properties of a wireless network. If your wireless adapter hardware and drivers support WPA2 then all you need is this update to make a WPA2 connection (no other third-party applications required).
