Ok. I see your point. But since the Updates tray icon keeps bugging about this, could you please include it anyway so that ALL updates are completed successfully using Autopatcher? I use IE6 and Office 2003 and both of these require this update...

I was told in a previous post that the idea behind Autopatcher is to provide ALL updates to use offline in PCs which can not get updates from Microsoft Update...

You can opt to make Windows (Microsoft) Update doesn't show that "update" anymore.

And yes, AP should provide all updates for offline use.
But then again, the tool is not even an update...and a lazy detector at that.

If it's not an update or a patch then it won't be in AP; it's as simple as that.
Unless we're talking about the add-ons, but that's completely off topic.
Probably you could ask Erik to include this as an add-on or something rather than to be considered as a "critical update".

just ie6 sp1. if you have xp sp2, you have ie6 sp2. office 2003 has his own updates to that. sp3 to office 2003 shall solve that nicely too. but yes, that boring thing at automatic updates will still bore you if you don't update this kb for nothing

On my portable (with no Internet connection) I have Windows XP Pro SP2 with all Autopatcher provided Critical updates installed. This PC has no MS Office.
Still I get the Automatic Updates nagging me about KB873374.

I don't want to argue with you, but according to the link it is a Critical Update, Severity: Critical. Even if it's not, I would appreciate if you could include it to get rid of the warning.

Pedro, it is, in deed an critical update according to ms. but please, notice that by adding that one to ap, you will not be able to see if you have an issue with gdi, since all updates are installed in silent mode. if not set silent mode to this one, all users will be hang at his one until click to see something telling you that something that already was updated may have an issue regarding gdi and you may need update it (but you already did it). even worst: even if you leave this one with silent mode instalation, you may have some sort of software that may be vulnerable and you will not be able to see it

to not show an update, it's pretty easy: at automatic updates, double click it. uncheck the kb that you don't wanna see anymore. click next. you will receive an message. check "don't show me this update anymore". done. same thing with windows update website

There is another way of stopping the Windows update reminder - which is to add the registry key that shows the GDITool has been run:-

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\GdiDetection Tool]
"GDITool"=dword:00000001

Save this as GDITool.reg (or anything_else.reg) and add it to the registry with regedit /s GDITool.reg

OR you could use REG.exe at the command prompt:

REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\GdiDetectionTool" /v "GDITool" /t REG_DWORD /d "00000001" /f

The /f (force) option may not be necessary.

As far as I know, KB893357 has not been replaced by a newer hotfix, but it is not in the apup lists. It is a non-critical patch from 2005 which increases wireless network compatibility.

well, without notice, i've found an issue regarding IE7 and his latest patches. if, by any reason, you choose to install IE7 included (that is not the same than the first IE7 version release, since IE7.cat changes), OVER an previews version of IE7 (like the first version release, that AP has untl a few months ago), ap will install ie7 and all his updates, since you already has ie7 to ap select those updates to install. so, this isn't the issue. the issue happends just after your reboot. if you have automatic updates enabled, it will download the latest cumulative path for IE7 to you (but you didn't install it before reboot?). but forgetting that you already has installed that cumulative patch before reboot, you will run AP again in order to check if nothing is missing, right? then you will notice that everything is in blue. despide of that, at the first time that you go online, automatic updates will download the latest cumulative update for ie7 to you. and it install fine after that.

why this issue is happening isn't my concern. but i'm concerned because when it happends, the user may go online without all security updates in place thinking that is safe. so far, i'm thinking about add 2 detections for IE7: the md5 for the first IE7.cat that was released and the current one, that shall prevent it from happend too often, but i'm believing that the best approach for that is some sort of dependency that i'm not kitte sure about how to implement. some ideas?

@Cristiano - Right now the module only relies on a file based detection. Multiple file based detections creates AND statements which you have to have both files for the module to be seen as "installed" For this reason, we might want to look at the registry instead which multiple entries creates OR statements - If this entry1 is found OR entry2 is found then this module is installed.

Looks like if you go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer and look for Version, the current version is 7.0.5730.13. IE7 from the August XP AP Core is version 7.0.5730.11. Not sure how far back the versioning go but I think I"ll add .10 - .13 as the registry detections. Also I'll keep the single cat detection just in case.

by the way: in there there's links to download the .exe for Windows Live Messenger too, but it list it with more than 500Mb, so i'm assuming that it downloads all languages

Hi,

It looks as if KB944533 is being duplicated in AP XP unless there are seperate versions for IE6 and IE7?

In addition KB942615 should not be removed as KB944533 is not a complete replacement.

KB935560 contains a newer imgutil.dll file, not updated by any IE7 cumulative update.

KB944533 - There should be two versions of this update. One for IE6 and IE7 like you said =)

KB942615 - My personal opinion is that when MS does this, they do it for a reason. I'm going to omit KB942615 from AP for the time being. Sorry...

KB935560 - This update isn't public. If/when it becomes public, we can include it in AP.

can i ask why the 1st post in this topic is not updated showing the content of the latest release for xp-x86, unlike what happens for the other nt 5.x OSes releases in the respective topics ?
(moreover, recently also the changelog in the relase script for xp-x86, similarry to what has been done for the other OSes, has been replaced with a url pointing to this topic)
