yes on the latest news section of the website someone posted a link to your WIP
and it is quite nice bc i downoalded it

but there is a bug...

in both the august and october updat acoumulated updates
the downloader ither disconnects on certian files
or i recive a file not found messange and the download wont contenue

Antonis created August script, and I updated it with the new hotfixes (and modules) and removed some. Don't worry, official releases will be cumulative (if you already have some older versions) or full if you don't have any.

I had set it for Office XP, and August and October XP (english).

It had downloaded 30 modules for Office 2002, 42 non critical for XP and 3 critical for XP

Then when it got to

IE7 -Windows XP KB939653-x86-ENU.exe

it stopped, File not found. It created the folder for that update, which, of course is empty.

The only option was to exit. Perhaps an option to skip, so the download can continue would be useful.

Incidentally Heise scurity did find and download that update, so I think it must be a bug in the way that file is requested in apup, rather than that MS is not providing it.

FYI The "File not found" apup is referring to is the apm file which should be in autopatcher.com, not the Microsoft update, which is pointing to the correct site.

Also, looking more closely at the folders and files created under Critical:

Folders:
RootCert_files (contains downloaded update)
KB941202_xp_x86_enu.apm_files (ditto)
KB939653_xp_x86_enu.apm_files (ditto)
KB939653_xp_ie7_x86_enu.apm_files (empty)

But only two apm files:
RootCert_enu.apm
KB941202_xp_x86_enu.apm
so maybe the missing apm file is actually KB939653_xp_x86_enu.apm rather than for the IE 7 version

I agree. But if it didn't stop, they would have to add some warnings. In fact I'm curious about the following: can you install any updates, by any order? If some files are not updated (e.g. because the download failed) isn't that going to make the system (more ) unstable?

It depends. Some updates require that others were already installed, for (most) others the order is immaterial (if a more recent version of a file that the update changes is already on the system, it will not replace it, so installing an earlier update after a more recent one should not matter). Generally, I don't think that missing out one or other update would make the system unstable.

But yes, you are right, there would need to be additional checks for those that do require other updates to be installed first.

As it happens, for the particular update in question (KB939653), where it stopped, it would be either/or: the first is for XP with IE 6, the second is for XP with IE 7. (in case you did not see it, I edited my previous post while you were replying, identifying more specifically to which apm file seems to be missing).

In any case, if the problem is as you say in the autopatcher app, then it will no doubt be fixed next time we try.

Not an error in autopatcher or the apup, just a missing file on autopatcher.com or a mistake on the script.
Which is very good news!

On the other hand I think it would be great if the user could select which files to download (or at least uncheck those not needed). Personally I don't want IE7 or OE so any IE7 or OE related download is just a waste of bandwidth

I already posted this in another thread, and JRosenfeld is correct as to the cause of the problem. Renato said he would take a look at it when he got home this weekend.

Please check now. I think i fixed KB939653's problem.

That problem is now fixed. However, there is now a file not found error on KB923810. Another user already made a post about it here.

Edit: the .apm file for KB923810 is also missing from the autopatcher server.

As suggested, I removed August release. Now, just use the October one.

There is no longer an October release listed, it shows the English release date as 11 September. Why is that?

The names, dates and descriptions of the releases are listed in the file release.list (if i remember the name correctly). The release script doesn't care what is the date stated, just cares about the files that it has to check for and/or download. Don't worry, the script itself must be the same (i'm the only one editing it), maybe me or someone else, edited the date.
