Erik is not available at the moment, but the newer version of APUP has been placed on the download page.

Please download APUP.ZIP again and try again. If you still have this problem please run apup.exe with the log option (as in C:\APUP>apup /log) and post the log-file here.

Thanks for the report.

That is a little different from the usual ctlwinsckdownloader error message that appears.

I will have to investigate this as well as the other ctlwinsckdownloader error to see what has changed in the latest release of APUP. Please allow me some time to do this and I will post when I find something.

I am unable to give a solution to the "ctlwinsckdownloader component failure" error because I am unable to reproduce the error.

The forum shows that you were previously able to run APUP 1.0.5. When did this error first appear?

• Administrator privileges;
  
• Write access to the HKLM area of the registry; and
  
• Write access to the SYSTEM32 folder

every time it is run.

Is it possible that one or more of these is being blocked by anything? Can you please tell me what anti-virus and anti-malware you are running?

I know that similar errors to yours occur, if PC Tools Spyware Doctor is installed and is not configured with an exception to allow APUP to run.

Ran from other pc and no problems, i'll seek to see if Agnitum Firewall is the responsible for this error, thanks very much for all your effort.

I had the same problem here, but after closing Agnitum Outpost Firewall it worked fine. Just disabling firewall's protection doesn't work; you must shutdown it's service.

Welcome to the forums and thank you for your report.

From what you have posted, it seems Agnitum Outpost might be incompatible with APUP.
However, APUP uses some of the same files as Internet Explorer when connecting to the Internet. Does Agnitum have a built-in exception for Internet Explorer?

No, it doesn't. At least in the 2008 and 2009 versions.
Agnitum Firewall makes its own rules the first time a application tries to access the net. What they call "ImproveNet". It's some kind of community where users can share their application rules. It must be some statistic work or something. You can choose between letting it create these rules automatically and setting them yourself. I chose the first one. But even when the "Allow all activity" option is enabled to iexplore.exe and to apup.exe the error occurs. And neither disabling firewall's self-protection nor changing its policy works. Disabling firewall's host protection doesn't help as well.

I found it.
Disabling the "Content filtering" for apup.exe solves the problem.
In the Outpost 2009, it's in the application rules window, on the "Options" tab.
I don't know why it doesn't disable this when you disable the firewall's protection. I think it should.
