Ok,
Since I never install this new apup. Always had install the old ways from Neowin forum. Pretty straight and simple.
Now today I install Apup 1.05 and put it in his own directory. Ran Apup.exe and I get this.
http://img87.imagesh...snag0000dw7.jpg
Anyone can explain to me what the problem ???
In the apup_bin folder only have this files.
MSCOMCTL.OCX
MSWINSCK.OCX
7za.exe
CAPCAB.EXE
aamd532.dll
Thanks

Hi Moonwolf
The message in your screen-shot means that APUP is unable to start properly. Make sure that you are running APUP as an Administrator, because APUP needs access to the Registry and your SYSTEM32 folder when it starts.

1. I am the administrator.
2. I tried on another machine that has not have administrator. So I tried Run as administrator with the password...and gave me the same error.
3. Log on has the administrator and gave me the same error.
It seem to be missing some stuff in the 1.05 ? cause whatever I do....does not work. I send over my buddy the link and download the 1.05 apup...and gave him the same thing. He ask me if there was something else missing since it does say UPDATE...well update from what?
Is there a full package to download? cause I dont see it under download at all.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, you have the right package. APUP.ZIP includes apup.exe and the files in the apup_bin folder which you have listed. Everything else, including a new copy of the latest autopatcher.exe, will be downloaded when apup.exe is working properly.
The strange error message which you are seeing means that APUP is unable to load a file it needs and so cannot connect to the Internet. If you run APUP as Administrator, the problem is usually because there is a wrong file in your SYSTEM32 folder (The SYSTEM32 folder is usually here: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.)
Because you have an old copy of AutoPatcher and maybe other programs as well, I do not know what files you have in your SYSTEM32 folder. It is best to remove some files from the SYSTEM32 folder and start again.
Please carry out the following steps:
1) Open a command prompt and change directory to the SYSTEM32 folder (should be C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32)
2) if aamd532.dll exists, delete aamd532.dll
3) if MSCOMCTL.OCX exists, run regsvr32 /u MSCOMCTL.OCX to unregister it. Then delete MSCOMCTL.OCX
4) if MSWINSCK.OCX exists, run regsvr32 /u MSWINSCK.OCX to unregister it. Then delete MSWINSCK.OCX
5) change directory to the folder with apup.exe in it and run apup /log
6) post the log-file (apup.log) here.

My system is is totally rebuild from fresh ..and I just turn out to put apup and that the error I been getting non stop.

Thanks for posting your log-file.
I am sorry this has not worked for you, because the instructions I have given usually solve this problem.
I will have to build a test system to see what else might be causing this. Please allow me some time to do this and I will then post what I find.

So any update on the problem that people seem to be facing? Seem like you are the only person doing this project.
Where is the other versions by the way.....maybe one of them works.
or better yet.....why not go back to your old roots and the hell with Microsoft what they say about Autopatcher.

is there something else that should be in with apup beside the 6 or 7 files that are in there?

I have built a test system with only Windows XP SP2 on it. This is a fresh build -- same as yours.
I have downloaded APUP.ZIP -- same as you.
I have installed APUP to C:\apup -- same as you.
I double-click on apup.exe and it works.
You have all the files needed. Nothing is missing.
Something on your system is preventing apup from loading its files in memory and running.
Can you please confirm that Internet Explorer is working and can access the Internet (IE and APUP use the same files).
Also, I now need some more information to try and understand why some files are not loading. This is best gathered with a program from Sysinternals (now owned by Microsoft) called Process Explorer
1. Open this link: Process Explorer in a new browser window.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the window and click "Download Process Explorer (1.6 MB)". Save it to the Desktop.
3. Right click and extract “ProcessExplorer.zip” to the Desktop.
4. Open the extracted folder of “ProcessExplorer”, double click “procexp.exe”.
5. Click Agree to run it.
6. Click View on the Tools menu, and select “Show Lower Pane”.
7. Click View on the Tools menu, click “Lower Pane View”, and select “DLLs” on the sub-menu that pops up.
8. Run apup.exe again.
9. Then highlight "apup.exe" in the Process Explorer main (Upper) pane.
10. Click File in the Tools menu, and then select “Save As…”.
11. Save "apup.exe.txt” to the Desktop.
12. Post the log in "apup.exe.txt” to this forum thread.
Found the problem James.
I have Spyware Doctor install. I remove it and ran the apup..no problem.
to make sure...I reinstall the spyware doctor......ran apup and suddenly i get a warning from spyware
24/09/2008 5:19:46 PM:62" summary="IntelliGuard: System Event Blocked" alertlevel="2" description="<b>Threat Name</b> - Worm.VB.DZ<br><b>Details</b> - Spyware Doctor has blocked an application attempting to access a file.<br><b>Risk Level</b> - Medium<br><b>Infection</b> - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSWINSCK.OCX<br>"
So what i did is disable Intelliguard and boom apup.exe is running without a problem.
Thanks for the help and I hope it can maybe help others also.
