AutoPatcher Forum

Since the idea for Autopatcher is to save bandwidth and time, it would be great if the user could select which modules to download.

E.g. I don't use _or want_ IE7 or Outlook Express. It makes no sense to automatically download the IE7 installer (15Mb) which will take up room in my portable drive if I don't intend to install it.

I second the request
If possible of course.

If you don't want Outlook then don't download office, it's all part of the same thing. However, I agree that IE7 should be in a list on its own when you have time (I would rather have a few up-to-date releases than lots of old ones) because so many people hate it and don't use it.

Cyrus, you are wrong. Outlook is a part of MS Office, but I said Outlook Express which is included in the OS. And there are many Outlook Express patches which I don't need since I don't use OE.

I suppose for now you could manually edit the .script file to remove the update.

well, i think this is supposed to download just once and to have all available updates in one place. i dont need IE7 but i dont mind to have it in my autopatcher system, cause maybe i would have to install it elsewhere. for now i'm satisfied, but it would be of course great to have a selection of modules.

hey, in near past you were donwloading huge autopatcher_core files (including IE7 etc.) and werent complaining

I'd like to see everything selected for download as default if you do this.

Remember, the purpose of the list of releases present in the APUP won't be the same as the one present in AutoPatcher. The objective is to show wich versions are available. We won't be having many releases, because we can't please everybody. Right now, my priority is to release the XP 32 bit English Core, Vista 32 and 64 bit (in separated versions), and XP/2003 x64. Maybe later, when we have more time, we can create the Lite version, but i don't know about creating more versions. It can start to be a big mess, but we'll see.

I completely agree with Renato, let's get all of the patches out first, and then work out smaller details.

I too would like to see more control over what gets downloaded. In my case I would like to see Project and Visio seperate from Office. Project was only included in Office Pro, and Visio was never a part of Office, I believe. To me it's wasted bandwidth and drive space.

Still this is low priority - getting the basics working right is the priority now - just wanted to put it on the list...
