Service Packs or not?

donsingleton's Photo donsingleton 05 Oct 2008

The FAQ says
Q: Does AutoPatcher include Windows service packs?

A: No, AutoPatcher does not install Windows Service Packs for you.

But http://www.autopatch.../autopatcherxp/ says Windows XP SP3 - Critical updates

Does it include XP SP3 or not?

that means that currently, the updates aim Windows XP SP3. if ms release an new update that aims only sp2, that update will not be included. by other hand, if an update aim sp2 and sp3, the update will be included

> Does it include XP SP3 or not?
no and never will. it's too dangerous install an SP with other updates in a single shot. but autopatcher may allow that option, since we don't have an option to install just the service pack and do the others only after an reboot, some users may try install all updates at once and will damage his system and blame us. so, we can't allow that. but we can point to you an link to sp3 redistributable in your language

So one should download the redistributable version of an SP and burn it to a CD, and burn AutoPatcher to a CD to have the ability to take everything with you.

Is it safe to put both on the same CD?

yes, just don't run booth at same time. after any kind of update, reboot your system before install anything else. if you are installing an SP, double check this and disable your anti-virus software when installing an service pack. some of them may mess with the install of an SP and this can damage your system
