My personal beef is, say the script is bouncing different downloads off different servers, occasionally a module fails to download. This cancels the whole operation of the APUP downloader.

What I'd like it to do would be to have three or four tries, flag the failed module and move on. At the end I'd have a list of modules that didn't arrive.

Apart from that, thanks for the good work!

yes, but the already downloaded modules aren't wasted, since if you run apup again, only the missing modules will be downloaded. ok, that could be more stable, but we need an dedicated programmer... until that issue be fixed, please don't remove the already downloaded modules and just run apup again, in the same folder

edit: can you please run apup with /log option? also you are running windows vista, you can just put the file attached into apup folder and run the file that the log will be generated. then, please post the log in here

Yes I know the modules are not deleted, the problem is it falls over on the same module time and time again so I never get a complete download.

just unzip the file attached into the previous post at the same folder that apup is located and double click the extracted file (apup.cmd)

i've tried the manual download of the file that you pointed. the link is still active, so, probably the issue is at the next file that is set to be downloaded

KB890830 - stuck on 99% installed.

I don't want to be unkind but I am having consistent issues - corrupted modules, incomplete downloads. Thank god I no longer use Site Advisor!

I repeat my request: the downloader widget, as well as the updating program, needs to think intelligently - if something dies, it skips it and continues on, and presents me with a failed task list, rather than just hanging.

We are already working on further changes to APUP. However, in the majority of cases it does keep on going.

Can you please post a log-file, because there is no good reason to hang on KB890830. (See How to make and post an APUP log-file for specific instructions on running APUP if you do this.)

I terminated the process. I will retry and if it hangs again I will post a log.

I think I have, inadvertently solved my own issue. I redownloaded APUP and copied it over my old APUP in the Autopatcher directory.

It seems to have downloaded everything this time and then Autopatcher ran without hanging.

Thanks for letting us know that your issue is solved.

In the meantime, upcoming development of APUP includes better reporting and recovery from failed downloads.
