well, there's a lot of questions with dx redist. first of all, most of people think that this update fits only for dx 9 and this isn't true. this one is also an update for dx10. mostly, some people say that new dx versions only makes something run better in games, but i never noticed that (well, i'm not an gamer...). by the way: dx9 still will be dx 9 after this update. if i'm not mistaken, only a couple of files will change of version number

Well, I doubt anyone will care a whole lot about this but, if you want to know a bit more about the contents of the DirectX executable,
here's a few details...

There are about 136 .cab files (x86/x64) that contain maybe 3 or 4 files - (.dll, .cat, .inf, and maybe a .exe). There might be additional
files in some of the .cabs, I didn't go through every one of them. Look at this as useless trivia :)

DirectX Feb. 2010 .cab file list:

DirectX 9 = XP
DirectX10 = Vista
DirectX11 = Win7

Is the DirectX Addon Pack going to have to be separated to indicate the different versions? I'm asking because I've seen no separate listings for updates to DirectX9 and 10 though it has been mentioned here that the latest DirecX Redist covers both. Anyone know if that will apply to 11 also? :rolleyes:

Apup is downloading the correct file (directx_jun2010_redist.exe) from MS and the correct AP module (directx.apm) but the MD5 hash check (md5_checksum_for_DirectX_Addon_Pack.md5 in md5_checksum_for_DirectX_Addon_Pack.7z) is still using details from the Feb release.

This should be updated to hold the MD5 Hash cecks for the Jun release of DirectX and the AP Module.

Old md5_checksum_for_DirectX_Addon_Pack.md5:
4cf007a355cb5f34a3c5c400113b33c3 *modules\Components\directx_files\directx_feb2010_redist.exe
f96810d6a5285ee58600b9bccc444f7e *modules\Components\directx.apm
61119b091e5c81179f434c8ce9344c1a *modules\windows_components.apm

New md5_checksum_for_DirectX_Addon_Pack.md5:
4E41372E8775E8025BE013480B0629B3 *modules\Components\directx_files\directx_jun2010_redist.exe
646C456FC4402A8C12F8DCF2B4674F50 *modules\Components\directx.apm
61119B091E5C81179F434C8CE9344C1A *modules\windows_components.apm

Also the MD5 Hash for md5_checksum_for_DirectX_Addon_Pack.md5 in autopatcher_directx-06-2010.script should be 2B0669BC78B079DD5A32E855BE0BC0BE not 75A852D21757D794D5F7BECB74BE208B.

The MD5 Hash and file size checks should also be changed in autopatcher_directx-06-2010.script to reflect the new md5_checksum_for_DirectX_Addon_Pack.7z.

Apologies if I am getting ahead of the releases.

E

Well, I had a brain lapse and forgot one little detail in the DirectX module - fixed it - run APUP to update the DirectX release.

Sorry :ph34r:

The DirectX web installer was updated and posted today - as of ten minutes ago the redistributable was not - the link was for the June version. :P

Do you have a Microsoft link to the redistributable - the link from the web installer page points to the June 2010 file. This may take a few days for the new 'full' installer to get posted.

Btw, the web link in the apm may need updating, it redirects you to a game site - for me anyway. - http://www.microsoft...tx/default.mspx - don't forget to update the .rti link as well :)

Question for maintainers : Is the DirectX release going to be updated at anytime?

The reason I'm asking as I noticed that my apup root folder still contains the md5 file where all others we used to have in there are now gone, if deleted and when I run apup2 it downloads it again. Even apup version 1 does the same thing.

Would like to see continuity for all releases thats all

I can't speak to whether the DirectX release needs to be updated, but I do know that md5 is a relic from when Cristiano was maintaining that release. It's fairly old. Looks like it hasnt been updated in nearly a year. As I recall, he used to put a md5 file in each of his releases. I believe the logic was that you could compare that md5 (which was all the files that should be in a release that's official - as opposed to what you might have downloaded). It was just another way to confirm what should be in each folder - and to help troubleshoot any problems that might occur.
