hi guys.
i'm new here, so if i'm doing something wrong, i apologize. now... here' what's up: until very recently i had stored on my disk a full package of AP2000. but since it was rather old and you no longer release such packages, i've decided to erase it and download APUP to get updated stuff. but some problemskeep me from installing it.
from the beginning: i have Win2000 SP4 portuguese (sorry if the e-mail is in english, i wasn't sure it would be ok to use portuguese...) and when i ran APUP, everything was going fine, until close to the end of the download, the progress bars started to go crazy. they began to move up and down very fast (example... 50%, dropped to 20, up to 54, dropped to 30, up to 62, etc.) but the files were downloading. at the end of the download, i got a error message saying something like "script above 100". i downloaded all files twice, and the problem kept apearing. ignoring it, i started autopatcher, but a new error message apeared... something like "file failed authentication". i proceded and most updates were installed.
another thing... unlike the full package i deleted, this autopatcher did not install internet explorer 6, neither dotnet 1.1 and 2.0 and several other stuff that the full package used to install. even worse, one of the updates it downloaded was the dotnet framework 3.5, and this version is NOT compatible with win2k!!
if it's of any use, in the "select releases to download" window, i've selected:
-autopatcher updater 1.0.5---- lang:all
-autopatcher engine 5.6.81---- lang:all
-autopatcher for windows 2000 (x86)---- lang:portuguese
-directX addon pack---- lang:all
-dotnet addon portugues de portugal---- lang:portuguese
i relly need held fixing these problems.

Welcome to the forums!

Do not worry, you are doing nothing wrong! It is correct to post here in English, but in the INTERNATIONAL section of these forums you will find a forum for AutoPatcher Português.

From the (very good) description you have given, I think APUP is trying to download files that no longer exist, because the Portuguese version (AutoPatcher para Windows 2000 SP4) is not up-to-date. It would be helpful if you could run APUP a third time, but this time add the option to make a log-file (which you can do from the Command Prompt with C:\apup>apup /log). Then please post the log-file here.

The Portuguese version does not include IE6: this is only in the English version.
Also, there seems to be a mistake in the Portuguese version of the NET Framework (dotnet) Addon, because .NET 3.5 is for XP, not Windows 2000. It should not be offered in AutoPatcher's selection screen.

hi james!
bellow you will find the log you requested. but first, i'd like to ask you a question:
-how can you say there is no IE6 for the portuguese version of win2000 if i have it? better yet, i have what some people call the "offline installation package" of IE. on top of that, the full package of AP (that no longer exists) did, i believe, install IE6 SP1. and, during the process, i saw "ie6_setup" being downloaded at least twice. or maybe i misunderstood you...
any way, downloading the files all over again gave me a chance to see the error window more clearly. here's what it reported:

"one or more files has failed verification. please re-run autopatcher updater.
if this problem persists, please report to the forums at autopatcher.com."

i believe i saw th "script over 100" or whatever error appear...

well, finally, i leave you with the requested log. i warn you... it's big! (perhaps, i should have used a file hosting service, to post the file...)

I have looked at your log file, but first your question:

Answer: because, in the AutoPatcher para Windows 2000 forum it says this:

If you have IE6 it must be, as you say, from a previous release of AutoPatcher. Your log file shows that you did not download it this time. I do not know why IE6 is not included now, or in which future version it will be included, because I do not maintain the Portuguese release.

The error message:

together with the details in the log-file confirm what I said in my last post. APUP is trying to download files which no longer exist, or which have changed. These are:

• Windows-KB890830-V1.42.exe -- an obsolete version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool
  
• messenger.msi -- an older version of Microsoft Messenger
  
• rootsupd.exe -- an older version of the Root Certificates update

With the obvious exception of the three items I have just listed, and the exception of .NET Framework 3.5 listed in earlier posts, you can install all the updates you have downloaded.

One final point: Your log-file shows that you downloaded everything again to an new (empty) folder. However, it is always best to rerun APUP in the same folder as before, because each time you run APUP, it checks all the files and then adds and removes files in order to bring all sub-folders (like modules) fully up-to-date.

as you said, you do not maintain the portuguese version, so this shouldn't really be a question for you. i just want to know if there will be a new release of AP2000 and when.

I don't know when the next Portuguese (for Portugal) release will be. I will send a message to the Maintainer, but you can always ask the same question in that forum in English or in Portuguese: AutoPatcher Português.
