What is Java (JRE)?
The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is what you get when you download Java software. The JRE consists of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), Java platform core classes, and supporting Java platform libraries. The JRE is the runtime portion of Java software, which is all you need to run it in your Web browser. When you download Java software, you only get what you need - no spyware, and no viruses.

A few preliminary questions:
- ... Do I need or want Java - see Java.com
- ... Do I need 32-bit Java, 64-bit Java, or both - see Which version of Java?
- ... Why am I doing this manually, what happened to the Java release?
Answer: Sun and now Oracle removed the ability to get a direct (permanent) link to the executable, as a result, we no longer maintain the Java script. If you only want to update Java it's easier to install it on your own. If you'd like to have Java as an AutoPatcher release please follow the Steps listed below.
Latest Version:
Java (JRE) 6u26 (x86)
- Name: jre-6u26-windows-i586.exe
- Size: 16619296
- MD5: 216CA7B04A6898B427643AC683674777
- Name: jre-6u26-windows-x64.exe
- Size: 16920864
- MD5: 169CD52AD4B57E6439171FA411A4B6EF
for those that wish download from ORACLE, attached to this post yours will find java_jre_x64_u23.zip and java_jre_u23.zip. if you wish use those instead the version that can be downloaded from java.com, please remove the old files first, then browse to this link, choose download JRE, select your platform (windows, for the x86 version and/or windows x64 for the x64 version). don't forget to check "i agree" and then choose jre-6u23-windows-i586.exe for the x86 version and jre-6u23-windows-x64.exe for the x64 version
all the executables shall be saved into modules\AddOns\SunJava_x86_files
don't forget: if you mix old versions with the current one, your release will turn into unofficial

NB: Windows XP 64-bit & Windows Vista 64-bit Edition are not currently supported.
I think that 64-bit IS supported (or at least it can be downloaded)

That download is from the Sun Developer Network, not from Java.com and it is not a stable link.
You can download from SDN yourself, but you must then use the standalone module to install, not this Addon pack.

Any reason why this is still not updated?
Well, seeing that AutoPatcher is barely hanging on to a skeleton crew of release maintainers, and that Java is an easy upgrade
on your own, that may have something to do with it.

curl -I "http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=27984"
(this is for the -p version for this month. for the next ones, you just take the link from java.com and add +1 in the BundleId to take the right version)
but thanks to sun, the only link that i can get is something like this one:
C:\Documents and Settings\Cristiano\Desktop\curl_719_3>curl -I "http://javadl.su n.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=27983" HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily Server: Sun Java System Web Server 6.1 Date: Mon, 09 Mar 2009 22:05:57 GMT Content-length: 0 Content-type: text/html Location: http://sdlc-esd.sun.com/ESD7/JSCDL/jdk/6u12-b04/jre-6u12-windows-i586- p-s.exe?AuthParam=1236636476_e8694e2cb50f894dbefab2b56a109179&GroupName=JSC&File Path=/ESD7/JSCDL/jdk/6u12-b04/jre-6u12-windows-i586-p-s.exe&File=jre-6u12-window s-i586-p-s.exe&BHost=javadl.sun.com
and this kind of link is ticket based and will not work for longer. but this is only part of the issue, because you need to have the proper time to take the working link and also update the script. sometimes, you don't have booth or you are unable to. right now, i have the proper time to do that task, but i'm unable to take the download link thanks to sun. ans the ones that can take that link are currently overloaded and can't do that. they have his own lives and problems to deal with and they do that by free will only. so, basically, there's 2 solutions for that:
1 - someone take the working link and sent it to me update this script or;
2 - sit and wait until the time issue is solved
sorry, but that is the naked truth

not quite really. we only are able to catch the download links from java.com, not from java.sun.com. at java.com, the links us to be updated after sun.com, meaning that we will be forced to stay with v13 for some time
