> I thought this was a way to remove it
and it should do it. that module is still present. i don't like it, i know what it does, i know that the removal of WM is related to issues regarding wlm, but it is in there anyway, for those that think it's safe remove it. i just don't advise to do it

as for muweb.dll, i will try track this new update. i don't have this one, because i don't like MU, but no problem, i can get rid of this one after take the download link

Maybe it is best to just remove this entry from AP. If someone wants to remove a component such as Messenger, MSN Explorer etc., it is probably best to leave it up to them how they are going to do it. My vote would be remove this entry.

mine too. right now, i'm thinking about remove this one too: SyncToy_enu_x64.apm_files this one is the only one that it's aiming x64 only and this one is one alone holds the guilt about the issue regarding apup 1.1. this doesn't fix the issue at all, but this one decreases the amount to be downloaded again in about 4.5MB. if booth are removed, the re-downloaded modules are decreased by about 9.6 MB. also, if you think clear, IESpell has any usage? this one isn't updated since 2006 and, since that, IE7 has arrived and IE8 as well. booth did many changes in the way that browser extensions work and i'm unsure if this one isn't broken by any of those. also, another file that was forgot in the scripts was vbrun60sp6.exe and this one isn't required since sp2 or sp1, i'm unsure about that. with those 2 out and with this one also out, the amount to be re-downloaded is decreased by something about 11MB or so. ok, the issue will be in there for tweakUI and a few extra files and, due that, this issue will not be bypassed at all.

also, windows easy transfer was updated match windows seven and this one has now several versions, that can be found in here. also this tool has versions for booth x32 and x64 vista and seven, or autopatcher should have them all. but this one is an tool that from my point of view, just a few people will have some usage for. the outdated version has about 8MB and was already replaced. imho, this one should be removed as well and not added again.

so, what yours think about?

ok. since the enu and ptb was missing 2 non critical updates and the ptb script has the extras package built in and doesn't have several things that the enu extras package has (like Iespell), i've went ahead and have removed synctoy from the ptb script. i've also removed from that script the synctoy and this one doesn't have the module to remove windows messenger 4.7. the detection for the microsoft update was updated into that script as well, but i'm holding this into the enu script for a few days, just to see if someone provides an download link for this one. if not, well, nothing to do unless update the detection and let it as is, since i was unable to find the download link for this one.

also please, by me i will remove those synctoys from the enu extras package as well. oh, of course, that remove windows messenger 4.7 too. so, please state your opinions about it in here

Here is what I think. Since I don't see any x64 entries in APUP, I assume there is no real AP support for x64 and therefore, you should not mix in x64 files in some of the lower level selections. Only adds to the confusion.

I also don't think 3rd party applications should be a part of AP such as IESpell and PowerMenu. Some 3rd party applications that are frequently hit by security fixes should stay such as JAVA, Adobe Flash, Adobe Shockwave.

I don't know about vbrun60sp6, but it looks like most of the files are already included in SP2/SP3. The worst that could happen is that you would have to add it back if people start screaming. :)

BTW, I believe Tweakui should be listed with the other PowerToy entries like it is on the PowerToys website.

For Windows Easy Transfer, I would only list the x32 entries. XP -> Vista (what you have now) and XP -> Win7

I've not been involved with AP that much, but from what I have seen in the short time I've used it, the application is mainly geared towards XP 32-bit. That is what I have based my opinions on.

muweb.cab

Don't know if that is enough though.

Added Update:

mucltui.cab

mucltui_en.cab

well, ive just removed that nasty win9xnt folder. it shall decrease the issue with apup 1.1 by something about 1MB. powermenu isn't updated since about 2007. i'm thinking about do this:
remove: IESpell, powermenu, RemWinMsgr, SyncToy

for windows easy transfer, this one is built in seven. so, this could help those that wish migrate it from another machine running xp to seven, but this can be downloaded by those that wish it. at least, the current version is out of date and the worst that can happen is a lot of people start to scream about it.

for tweakUI could be an idea move it, in deed, but since some people do the worst possible thing (mix translations of autopatcher), this has to be coordinated between all languages and this may be tricky to do

well, i will do an backup from those removed stuff, in any case...

> muweb.cab
not really enough, because it was missing the muweb.inf, that is also required, but i'm recursive and, based in the one that was downloaded by the old version, i've did the inf file for this one. it shall be enough. i've removed the .cat file, because i didn't found an real reason for this file be in there

also, i've found a couple of tools that was being downloaded from third party websites. all those wasn't updated since at least 2007. so, i've removed them all. this was the removal list:
# 2009-11-08 - -IESpell; -powermenu; -SyncToy; -WinUptime; -WindowsEasyTransfer; -StartupMonitor; ~updated detection for Microsoft Update

with this, the extras package has decreased in about 30MB in size and the issue with apup 1.1 shall be something like 1MB only, for those that has the issue, because is being a little bit difficult track this issue, since this doesn't happen to all

If you have a debug version of APUP 1.1, I could run some tests for you

I might add that mucltui.dll also belongs to Microsoft Update. I asked over at RVM about an install package, but apparently there is none. A helpful member there posted this:

Quote

Installation is straightforward.

1. Extract CABs to "%SystemRoot%\system32".
2. Rename "mucltui.dll.mui_en" to "mucltui.dll.mui".
3. Run: "regsvr32 muweb.dll".
4. Run: "regsvr32 mucltui.dll".

So after installation, there should be three files:

mucltui .dll 274288 7.08.2009 0:23
mucltui.dll.mui 16736 7.08.2009 0:23
muweb .dll 215920 7.08.2009 0:23

The regsvr32 items will make the necessary reg entries from what I have been told.

Update:

I just browsed through my WindowsUpdate.log and noticed that Windows update will do a self-update on itself and add the above files if they are missing. I guess the key is to have and register the muweb.dll which is what was done by downloading the ActiveX control via IE.

this one isn't installed by windows update agent? i'm just asking, because the script that installs this one doesn't do any mention to this dll

At the time, the InstMUWC.inf was for 7,2,6001,788 as seen in that inf. I have no idea if
it is still valid. I'll see if I can find out more about that. BTW, I updated my previous post.
Look at the WindowsUpdate.log

well, this one is the same since many years, but there's an mention for the version number in:

InstallVer = "7,2,6001,788"

that file was created by Kenneth R. Alcock, DarkShadows on MSFN.org Forums and the last time that this one was updated was in 2008-07-19 03:30 PM. as an guess, i believe that the InstallVer should be updated to match with the current one, but i'm unsure about it

Also, the codebase entry in the inf is pointing to the old version.

I made a post on MSFN.org about a newer version of InstMUWC.inf. See what happens.

Also, I got a file size mismatch on muweb.dll. I still have
the old one on my system after running APUP.
